Bulgasal: Immortal Souls

Fantasy drama done right
Bulgasal honestly has such a great, AND ORIGINAL, story that will hook you in instantly! If anyone has watched Inuyasha before, it kind of gave off that feeling at times (if you know you know). The genre is a perfect blend of supernatural, mystery and romance. It’s not romance heavy if that’s what you’re looking for, but it’s really wholesome in so many aspects! The acting is really great from the whole cast, they will have you emotional throughout the whole thing. The OST is just sooooo beautiful like I can’t praise it enough. They played the right songs for the right moments and it made the scenes so much more meaningful. The only reason the plot isn’t getting a perfect 10 is for the loose end they left about what transpired 600 years prior. They did a good job with not leaving you completely confused in the end, but there were still some things that needed explaining or clarifying regarding the drama that transpired 600 years ago. I had so many theories so it’s a little frustrating that some things weren’t super clear in that aspect. Overall though, I really can’t stress enough how great this show is and highly recommend giving it a try!Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

Wasted Potential
This was really disappointing. I never stop a drama midway no matter how boring it gets because I just need to see it through at that point; but I was so close to dropping this one half way.The beginning was actually good, I was thinking nice it’s already faced paced (too fast for some). But, it kind of just went downhill after the first 4 episodes honestly. Just wasted potential honestly with the cast they had.
The Pros:
- I thought the weather theme would be boring but surprisingly I found it the most interesting part. They pulled it off well by connecting the weather to their emotions I thought.
- I honestly can’t think of another one worth writing. Maybe the side characters weren’t bad, but weren’t amazing either. Nothing memorable.
The Cons:
- The Second leads. My biggest issue was how much time was focused on the SML and SFL. They really tried to make us sympathize with the cheaters and give a shit about their marriage life, but I could have cared less about them. I just saw them as cheaters and got annoyed with FL babying the SML.
- The mom. I found her mom extremely annoying and overbearing to the point where it wasn’t even cute or funny anymore. She was in her business a lot and refused to see it any other way.
- The chemistry/characters. I love both actors but their chemistry felt so off and I think a big part of that had to do with the way their characters were written. It felt very lackluster. It’s the little things that make a chemistry but you could tell something just wasn’t working.
- The non-existent romance. ***SPOILER ALERT***
they really only gave us a couple episodes of their love blossoming. After that all they did was fight, kind of make up, fight, awkward makeup, fight, then fight again. I didn’t understand where there “love” for each other came from cause we didn’t see the growth. They slept with each other right away and then suddenly fell in love. Their communication sucked so bad and it just never got better.

I really liked how their wasn’t so many misunderstandings in this drama. It seemed like every time there was an issue it was resolved pretty quickly which was so nice for a change. My favourite parts were the story with LBY and his family secrets. I enjoyed that way more than the woman fighting constantly. The ML’s have great chemistry and their scenes are adorable. Another plus, was the relationship between the Empress and Consort Yue. I loved how there was no scheming and backstabbing between them, and how their dynamic with the emperor was. [SPOILER]
Also, loved the third prince and was so happy to know him and LBY were actually working together the whole time. I didn’t see that coming, so glad how they played that!
CONS:
The story does drag in some parts; mainly the beginning and ending. Only thing with the leads is they don’t really get together till part 2, so the first 20 something episodes can get annoying with how much focus is put on her first engagement. I didn’t like her first fiancée and found him weak and unnecessary for the plot honestly. I was counting down the episodes just waiting for him to and FML to break up.
OVERALL:
Really enjoyed this drama. Although it was 56 episodes long and it was dragging at some points, the episodes do go by pretty quickly since their only 40 mins long. If you don’t like slow paced romance, then this isn’t for you. I normally hate the slow pace, but honestly this one was bearable so I would definitely recommend giving this drama a try!

Disappointing all around
So reading the synopsis and seeing the 8 star I thought this was going to be a pretty good drama. Man was I disappointed with how it turned out. The acting, besides the ML, was okay. The writing was definitely not the best so maybe that had a lot to do with the acting. The plot felt weird and insignificant throughput the story because of the “AH HA” surprise factor they tried adding like every other episode. It got repetitive and predictable. Also, I have to mention how annoying I found the FL. It takes a lot for me to not like the main characters of any show really, and I tried really hard with this one, but I just couldn’t. Her constant hypocrisy and childish attitude towards the ML was well past annoying. She would always push him away and get mad at him unreasonably and then expect him to keep chasing her, like I wish he just called her out for her crap seriously even once. It’s only when he’s near death that she treats him nicely and then he survives and she’s back with her attitude. Also, her jealousy was so unreasonable; he’s over here outwardly telling anyone who will listen how much he loves her and rejecting literally any girl that breathes in his direction and she stills gets mad for things he can’t control. Meanwhile, she’s over here PURPOSELY staying in the house of the guy she knows has feelings for her and still flirts with him because she mad at ML??… no words honestly. Her character is just annoying all around.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Equal amounts Romance and Comedy
Where do I start with this show? Love to Hate you is such a nice break from the other Rom-coms. Granted this has a lot of the cliches (lovers to enemies, contract dating, rich man poor woman), but they don’t force it unnecessarily where it would take away from the plot. It is a fast-paced quick watch and leaves you feeling satisfied.PLOT:
I found it entertaining as hell. ML has ptsd from his last relationship that doesn’t allow him to have any skinship with woman without getting anxiety. He also has a very negative outlook on women in general due to his childhood and ex girlfriend. FL is a complete badass and also has very negative views on men. She is a strong feminist due to her dad being so sexist and is doesn’t like the double standards her society places on men and women. She dates a lot of lousy guys who are known cheaters to give them a taste of their own medicine.
ACTING/CAST:
The acting is top notch from the whole cast, I’m obsessed with the SML especially. I haven’t seen him since ‘Flower of Evil’ and if anyone’s watched him in that you know how good his acting is. The ML is so attractive and had these cute moments being an asshole one second and then this really shy dork in another. This is also my first time watching anything of his work and he left a great first impression (I really want to see him in an action movie now lol). Same with the FL, this was my first time watching her work and she didn’t disappoint either. You also won’t find the FL and her roommate annoying as they’re not some damsel’s in distress. 10/10 for the whole cast!
ROMANCE:
The leads’ chemistry was incredible. You get this a lot with older actors, but you can tell they felt completely comfortable with one another. The romance scenes were passionate and will have you giggling like a lunatic alone. They do not disappoint in this aspect! I kind of wish the second leads were shown getting to know each other sooner only because of how much I enjoyed their scenes too. His manager is such a heartthrob and had some of the funniest scenes. Her roommate was very relatable and super cute too. 10/10 in this department!
MUSIC:
Honestly I didn’t pay too much attention to this. They didn’t have that one song playing over and over again for every scene which was a nice change from other dramas. There was one I remember slightly being really good. I would say for simply not having an annoying soundtrack that’s over played, 10/10.
OVERALL:
If you’re even hesitating about starting this drama, just do it you won’t regret it. It’s a quick watch with only 10 episodes (I finished it in a day), and is fast-paced because of this. This is truly a rom-com done right and is a nice feel-good binge.

Now the cons with this drama I would have to say include the constant back and forth of being together and breaking up between the leads throughout the story. I found it very repetitive and annoying to watch, especially when it always involved some stupid misunderstanding. I think because I love all of the characters in the early episodes so much, the sudden change in plot near episode 24 kind of caught me off guard and made me dislike where the story was heading. The story just didn’t seem consistent enough to keep your focus at times which is why there were a lot of skippable scenes. At one point, I wasn’t sure if it was a drama about time travelling, romance, or politics. Not saying they’re not mutually exclusive, but it felt all over the place at times.
It’s an overall good drama to watch, definitely got draggy in the middle and again in the end; it could have easily been around 35 episodes to help with that. I recommend it if you have the time and patience to watch 56 episodes.
