A bad transition between scenes that lacked fluidity

It seemed as though it came from a novel? It must be from a very classic sad romance. Plotwise, I couldn´t avoid being reminded of Candy Candy or Ladie Georgie all the time. Technically speaking, there was a weird and abrupt cut in the song just at the end of episode 1. They were trying to portray some kind of "plotwist reveal" there but they failed to deliver the hype and the intrigue.
