As Ciara Once Said "Level Up"
Okay, 2gether was the very first BL drama I watched, because I saw a blogger tweet about it. I still think it was a good way to start off delving into this fandom, wouldn't have had it any other way. While I agree, the whole premise of 2gether was rather cheesy and sappy, I think seeing a sappy and sugar-coated gay romance is rare, especially in the mainstream - considering how popular 2gether quickly became which was good but yes, the last few episodes of 2gether genuinely felt like they were stretching out the story way too much! There's a saying in my "mother-tongue": "Adding extra water and fertilizer, unnecessarily, even though your plant is growing fine!" and of course the lack of comfortableness between all the couples - except, strangely enough ManType, wherein one half of the couple is literally the representation of a tsundere (maybe it was Mike and TopTap's experience in dramas).
But, Still 2gether? Genuinely felt like a breath of fresh air! Sarawat seems more relaxed while still somehow maintaining his "ice cool" demeanor. You could see the potential that Bright had and that he could offer to Sarawat's character in Ep11 of the first part. HE channels THAT energy into this second half much to many viewers' joy (including mine)! And on Win's behalf, what do I even say he's a gem. He carried the latter half of the first part and now, he seems to have eased into Tine's character. Those two were enough to actually encourage me to watch the second part. But here in the second part, much to my enthusiasm, we got to see the other couples develop too! Especially, the resident domestic couple of ManType. And Phukong FINALLY got to be, dare I say, "2gether", with Mil. Each character got a refreshing turn in personality and interactions seem more lively and natural. Of course, it is flawed and cheesy, but it's meant to be a touch-and-go lighthearted romance. The novel itself was written a bit apprehensive and strange from what I have read of it, so seeing that they decided to make their own continuation I commend GMMTV for actually writing a good sequel.
And of course, I normally don't like to go into talking about kisses but I am glad we got to see Sarawatine behave more like the boyfriends they are supposed to be, the level of care and intimacy increased and seemed natural, so I am glad. While it isn't what you would want if you want a story-heavy, intense, plot-driven show - it is a great choice if you want something light-hearted. The characters have become very memorable mostly because of this follow up and that's why it gets a higher rewatch value from me. The drop in others is mainly because of the cliches and stereotypes, or certain lackluster moments but even those were rare in this second part.
I would definitely recommend watching the second part once you are done with the first. Don't lose hope with the strange ending in S1!!! Watch Still 2gether :)
