Both are depressing historical movies which, among other things, touch upon how Chinese opera can intersect with queerness (both gender and sexuality).
They approach the topic of grief quite differently (Make Up has more genre/mystery elements, Dear Ex is more drama), but both are about queer characters dealing with a lover's death.
Two Weddings and a Funeral is like the actually-queer cousin of Fake Couple, it's a much more grounded depiction of what a fake marriage would actually look like and has a much larger focus on gay (cis male) community. The director is an out gay man and the difference in perspective might be interesting to those curious about these topics.
