Best example of Worst Drama about Mental Health

I waited patiently and reserved my final judgements towards the show, till the end just hoping that they will do something or deliver a different message towards the end.

Sadly, what a great disappointment this show turns out to be.

If this is how they (Netflix, production companies, director and writers) intend to do a story or talks about mental health then this show would be a good example of worst demonstration of mental health.

There are a lot of elements I can live with but there are a few fundamentals I just can't.
a) Colour used - from the interior of a psychiatric ward to the colours of the nurses uniform.
*I think "It's Okay to Not Be Okay (2020)" demonstrated or educated some of us about the importance of colours in the topic of mental health. In most times, Red (red related colour) suggests ignites, power, energy, aggression, fire - probably the last colour you want to use in the psychiatric ward? (I read in Netflix IG, Director's got this inspiration after visiting OB/GYN clinic, I was speechless reading that).

b) Medicine = answer to mental health
I can't help but noticed from the start, all Doctors in the show kept mentioning medicine, just take your medicine and you'll be fine! Let's have a few words with your family and ta-da! you're all fine and well again! Or let us transfer you to another hospital! Are they serious? The last straw for me was ep8 when the female lead finally realises her depression. From there, doctors and people around her just kept asking her to take medicine, keep to a regular routine, write complimentary diary, and poof! you're be fine and okay again!

Don't get me wrong, the narrative in ep9 was great, perspective from a nurse turn to a patient, I was looking forward how they going to go from there, it was a really good angle (rejection from your family, forcefully admit you to a psychiatric ward, how no one really 'listening' to you when you're at your most vulnerable time, everyone tries to tell you 'what's best', because they are the 'healthy people'? )
but it seems like..nah, there's nothing to write about it from there so let's move on to..Love!

Utterly speechless. Till the end no one around her helped her to really overcome her depression or helped her get a closure from the incident. Hence I do agree, her depression will relapse for sure.

Then that's how they end the show - Just remember to take your medicine and fall in love! and that's your Happily ever after!

Honestly if they want to do another rom-com, just do it and have mental health as a side/support plot.
It's disgusting how they handle this and very disrespectful, very.

I am now rewatching It's Okay to Not Be Okay (2020)
to see if I'm really biased or I should take admit myself to a hospital and start taking pills too.

Rare Gem

this is just a personal opinion, many might disagree, some might agree :)

to me, this is a well-written piece. it's a story about one's first love, friendship and growth.
i liked the story-telling and how it focuses on the characters development vs just another drama.
this is one of those rare gems.

i enjoyed the fact that it's like a trip to memory lane - taking some of us back to our younger days, being foolish and reckless (being our true self)
it brought back those feelings of having crush on our seniors, can't tell what is really love (vs like, we're only 18! 19?)
how we grew from failure and hardships
how we then learned about liking someone, what it really means falling in love with someone
then breaking up with someone, that we really like (love)

however i do admit, this is so rare that one really have to start and keep going until the end without a break.
how most of us stayed and waited, that actually breaks the momentum in my opinion. (will rewatch this during the summer!)

and for those who got crushed by the ending, whether or not it delivered the answer you were expecting, try to think of it as you are now going through the "breakup" - the agony you were feeling when watching the last few episodes? (korean saying) It's okay, cry and rant all about it. and once you're over it, you'll then remember the sweetness it brought you :)

and one last thing to add, Kim Tae-Ri. my god, she's really Good.

Soul film

I do agree with all the good reviews about this film and some extra message I've got out of watching this film are - courage and closure.
Sometimes in a challenging situation we hope we will have the courage to hang on to someone that are dear to us. However this film has delivered us a message that letting go is also a form of courage and positive decision.

Like many others, I'd thought this would be a sobbing piece but I was quite surprised with how the story was told, this is a really good piece of film - beautifully shot, brilliant casting, good chemistry and obviously the cinematography and post work was really nice to see.

One for the new age

First few things that caught my eye:
It was a nice production, drama was shot very tastefully. Choice of music and art direction were very new age, encapsulating the current trends.
Script at the beginning episodes were interesting as it does not have the typical ‘dragging’ and repetitive dialogues, they were bit more realistic and straightforward. That kept me watching…

Then it became obvious that the main characters were a reflection of the ideal life the young adults dreamt of these days.

Not a fan and absolutely didn’t like the idea that the writer/director was affirming the concept of it’s okay to put in minimal effort in life as one could still be successful and be ‘special’ somehow and to top it, one could still live a very comfortable life (luxury lifestyle) yet without needing to worry about any finances struggle at all. The mentality and attitude of the lead actors were really misleading and disturbing.

This is the concept I grasped from this show:
“It’s okay to live in the world of your ‘perfect’ bubble cause the world and everyone else will give in and see you as the special one.“

This is such a misleading concept to promote and encourage. Second lead however had a more realistic side and depth. But I can see why it gained a lot of supports and views but this is nothing but a nice facade. Just like the main character

a good start, unexpected healing messages

thought it was a comedy until i realised it had a few messages, very jtbc.
liked the fact that it first mentioned the 'mask' - not a new thing but how it was portrayed and the realistic side of what happens when we've lost it. also liked the message about the buried emotional feelings towards family, a new unexpected way of getting a closure.
there was a scenario which struck me as a very good reflection of current society - the scene of the idol and his fans. it's really scary but it is real I feel, to see how some fans would go in the world of fantasising their idol.

stayed and finished the show because i wanted to see what are the other messages (writer/pd wanted to relay)
actors were really good playing their roles even the kids too.

it's not a typical rom-com
it's entertaining
