I'll admit it: I only watched this movie bc of Cha Tae Hyun. I usually don't watch this kind of movie (what with the disappointment that came with "Seabiscuit"), but, boy, was I pleasantly surprised!
Although the plot was kind of textbook (man and animal work together toward a common goal after undergoing a trauma), I loved the execution! (Sidenote: The cinematography was beautiful.)The character development was excellent: They take you into the mind and heart of Seung Ho and Wu Bak as well as the development of the relationship that helped them achieve their goals. It's like you experience their losses and it helps bring you into the film. The supporting characters like Ye Seung, the Samchons (Uncles) and even the baddies made this film all the more better.
This film had a great cast! I couldn't be happier to see Kim Soo Jung as Tae Hyun's little girl. I had seen her on Star Golden Bell, but I didn't know how she would do in a film. She was amazing ^^. Kim Sang Ho and the other samchons (uncles) were excellent in providing comic relief. [FUN FACT: Park Ha Sun was actually Tae Hyun's younger sister in another film (BA:BO) and in this film she was kind of a love interest.] Cha Tae Hyun was a delight to watch. I'm always amazed at how well he controls tears lol. He would tear up (as would I) then immediately start to laugh to try to conceal that he was crying (but I'd start bawling my eyes out). I hope I'm not the only one who does this... -_____-;
I heard the soundtrack before watching the movie. (Mainly, because the OST comes out before the movie has been subbed. Heh.) I liked it and Tae Hyun sings a song on the OST (Happiness)! ^^
For being the type of movie I shy away from, I would actually watch this again. And no doubt, I would probably cry just as much. (What is it with Tae Hyun's films making me cry?!)
If you like tear-jerkers, inspirational/soul-filled moments, heartwarming relationships, and some hilarious self-defense moves sprinkled here and there...
then you've picked the right movie! Watch it naooooo!
