What’s with all the hate?!
Reading all the negative reviews I’m stunned!The message(s) this show sent were so clear, and quite simple to understand. Money will not buy happiness. Even after our main character survived the show, he was haunted by what happened to him. Begin only able to sleep and begin haunted by nightmares whenever he does, made it irrelevant if he had money or not. Because of the things he had to do for those numbers on his phone, he’s just as miserable. And the underlying message was said directly to us: life will go on. No matter what we go though, everything will continue as it used to.
Another criticism of this show that I’ve seen is that it’s „a cheap copy of squid game” which is just baffling to me. Squid game and The 8 game may tackle on the same issues on the surface but the way in which they do so is completely different. Squid game was fair, every player had the same ground-zero, it’s point was mainly the lengths people will go to in order to earn money (small squid game spoiler ahead) proven by how many players returned to the game. The 8 game on the other hand replicated the outside world with just 8 people, rigged from the start just as life is. By creating an ecosystem with a hierarchy we got sort of an „animal farm” scenario with everything returning to higher floors supremacy.
I do have my own criticisms of the show. However overall, for a tv show, this is brilliant. But again, looking at the reviews not everyone agrees with me. Not liking something is fine but the nonsense reasons I see are just insulting.

What is even this plot?
The plot goes nowhere. What caused the earthquake? What is the mad scientists backstory? What does the serum actually do? How does it work? What are the main characters relations and how do they meet? etc. I could line up many more unanswered questions. The glimpses of any sort of backstory were directly told to us in an unnatural placing, and what wasn’t told to us is left to for us to guess with much uncertainty. I watched this for Ma Dong-Seok and was left disappointed as his character was so terribly written I somehow managed to dislike him despite the writers attempts to make him the righteous, unbreakable character.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

What did I just finish
It’s the kind of story you walk into and get out of as a different person. I don’t recommend this if you want something cool and easy to watch but if you’re to more of a deep dive that will genuinely leave you speechless this is the perfect show.But to the summary what I liked and what I didn’t.
I loved how Lee Seung Gi portrayed Jung Bae Reum, I can’t say it was prefect but it was very close to perfection. I also really loved how it took on the subject of psychology, Jung Bae Reum’s transformation from a merciless serial killer to a person that was eaten up by guilt has definitely taken a toll on me.
Now I only disliked one thing, how long it takes for a one scene to be finished. They start a scene that will leave viewers questioning and only reveal the full one after like 5 episodes. It could be enjoyable to some people that like to build suspension but to me it was annoying to say at least. I didn’t include it in my rating though because it’s an individual problem.
Anyways, if you’re a thriller fan “mouse” is a MUST watch.
