I also noticed that all antagonists were women who were plotting to get the attention of a man and that annoyed me. Not that I expect it to be much different in a chinese drama as I am somewhat familiar with the cultural background and I know that our values and mentality are different but still I wanted there to be at least one female antagonist who had another goal and more ambition. On the other hand considering the genre and the focus on romance their absence is understandable. Male characters played a much more passive role so I had no other choice but hate female antagonists which I don't like to do. But despite the fact that I disliked female antagonists' fixation on men I like that they were at least smart and cunning.
Some plotlines seemed to be there for no reason other than laying a foundation for a sequel (the relationship between Bai Feng Jiu and Dong Hua Di Jun with a female being too forceful and obsessive). It definitely felt like forcefulness was romanticized many times in different relationships here (another instance - Bai Qian and Ye Hua). That's why my overall rating is lower even though I devoured this drama and couldn't stop thinking about it even when I wasn't watching it... but of course, it's just a personal preference
