Curious about JPOP?

I see a lot of people repeating outdated opinions about JPOP around the web like they're in an echo chamber; specifically, about it being unavailable or too cutesy/weird.

But, there’s more to JPOP than the Johnny boys and AKB girlies (no shade to them). 

Japan has the 2nd largest music industry in the world. There’s variety in genres/concepts and artists. There’s something for everyone.

Many artists and music labels upload on YouTube and have social media accounts. They're also on Spotify and Apple Music.

It’s easy to find int fans on social media.

Downside: copyright laws are stricter than in other countries and there are no dedicated fan-groups who make ENG subtitles. (but music is good, ppl are talented, that’s enough for me)

Upside: generally less toxicity and fandom wars than in the KPOP fandom.

I jumped ship to Jdramas after watching Buzzer Beat. I found they had more variety in the genres that I liked  and that they averaged 10ep 45min. I also liked that many protagonists were rather regular people instead of being on the two extremes ends of the spectrum = dirt poor and dirty rich à la candy girl and 2nd gen CEO chaebol asshole with a personality disorder as a quirk.  

I know since then Kdramas diversified in other genres but I'm too used to Jdramas at this point. Still watch them occasionally though
