FATE, FORGIVENESS & FAMILY…
Ended up watching this a second time, first on Viki and then came across it on Netflix recently. It definitely made my Fave List since I loved everything about it. The FL’s fangirling was funny enough the entire show but each character had their own moments of humor I also enjoyed. Lots of familiar faces like Kim Sun Young (Cindy’s mom was ridiculously funny) did a great job playing that character, Park Jin Joo (the bestie) she’s always cute in anything she plays and of course, you can’t miss the big guy Ahn Bo Hyun, just love him! Great casting!Like most dramas, the main characters are usually “fated” from the beginning, right? Guess it usually works for good storytelling. Then comes the amount of “forgiveness & acceptance” from that fated past which I found to be a very big deal with the ML’s character (you’ll see it for yourself when you watch it, have the tissues ready). In the end, it reminded me of how important family is and really, it’s not always about lineage. I think most of us have loved ones we call “family” but are not necessarily blood related.
Yes, sometimes a show can have those “extra fillers or drag” that might bore us but overall, I liked this one. The setting of the museum, art and paintings tied in very well with the storyline. When the soundtrack music is pleasant and catchy, you’ll end up singing along with it every episode. The mature relationship of the ML and FL was quite tender, they had so many loving (and sexy) moments it would make my heart flutter. If you enjoy a good RomCom, this is worth watching… enjoy!

The chemestry between leads, the fangirling character where you can recognize yourself, the kindness/forgiveness/hope/communication/love etc. you name it. It stands out from all cliches and bring something to the table.
Park Min Young is the best rom-com actress in Korea (period) ahah. Her smile is a serial killer.
And Kim Jae Wook damn. This man needs more main lead roles. Where is he ? Why doesn't he get more projects ? Gonna join his fanclub.
Side characters are great too ! Loved the evolution of Hyo Jin, Seon Joo and her family, Cheum gallery's employees, Da In and of course Eun Gi (played by Anh Bo Hyun, who's finally getting some recognition). But the best one was Uhm So Hye !! I can't belive that she played in Crash Landing On you. I was not sure at first since their persona is sooooooo different. Just showcase how great of an actress she is ! She made me cry laughting.
Finally the OSTs are perfectly perfect !
I only wished they insisted more of the fangirl story !

Great slice of the Fan Girl Life with a sweet romance
9.5/10 is my rating. This is a 2019 South Korean television drama with 16, 60 minute episodes.Fangirl of a boy band by night and hard working museum curator by day, Sung Deok-mi (Park Min-young) works hard to keep the duality of her nature a secret. Deok-mi originally meets the arrogant and standoffish Ryan Gold (Kim Jae-wook) when they are opposing bidders for an art piece. He later becomes Director of the museum where Deok-mi works and becomes her "cover" when she starts dating an idol. The plot twists when Sindy, who runs a fan girl site, gets a job at the museum and has the goal of exposing that Deok-mi is dating a star. Not easy to keep such a big thing a secret - especially with embedded spies.
Spoiler 🚨 This is one of my new favorites. I wasn't too sure about this because a 30 something fangirl was a little hard to envision from the premise but it works. The characters are all very well developed and acted and you really feel like you get to know them and care about the outcome. The romance is perfectly paced, credible, and the chemistry between the two is amazing. You could really see them as a couple. I loved the ending too - so many do not end neatly wrapped up and this one did. I highly recommend this one to anyone who likes a sweet romance with that little bit of intrigue.

And their chemistry is off the charts !!! I haven’t shipped two people this hard in so long hahaha. One look from the guy and I’m drowning. Idk how PMY handles KJW’s charisma lol.
But yes, if you guys wanna see a healthy relationship in a kdrama (which barely happens lol) then I definitely recommend this. The plot can be predictable at times but certain scenes/dialogues by the actors really get you, especially in the later episodes.
Oh and if you also fangirl then this is a great drama for you. I hope you guys enjoy the drama as much as I did. Even though there’s still 3 episodes left, I’m definitely putting this drama in my top 5 dramas for 2019.

The plot has the usual cliches , but the writers have managed to switch them in a fun way, so it's quite enjoyable to see the girl doing some things that usually the guy does. But the greatest thing about the plot is that all the problems are solved very fast and with no much drama. The leads are talking to each other and they resolve their issues by communicating. It's refreshing to see. So far, no noble idiocy, if there were misunderstandings, they were resolved by talking to each other, a lot of honesty between the leads. I love how they portray a normal relationship.
The best part of the drama though it's the chemistry between the actors. I think they portray their characters really well, and they have a lot of liberty to express themselves. You can tell by the way the subtle looks and movements that they give their best, I actually understand more about the characters feelings from their gaze alone.
So, if you want a good rom-com with great actors and chemistry (their kisses are among the best), I definitely recommend it. Even if you are not a fangirl and don't relate to that part of the drama, the plot is more than that so you won't get bored.

Hilarious, relatable and with lots of Soft Boys (TM)
The first five episodes were absolutely hilarious. I was constantly scream-laughing, to the point that my flatmate wanted to know what I'm watching. After episode five there aren't many laugh-out-loud moments anymore, but by that time I was already completely hooked and in love with the setting and all the characters. I enjoyed it all the way to the end, although the drama goes through a slight shift in tone. The fangirling, which was hilarious and so damn relatable, disappeared more and more, which was a bit disappointing, since at first it seemed to be the main storyline. During the last third, it was more of a clichée family drama with some very cheesy romance scenes.I will probably still rewatch it one day because the first third is hilarious, I love Deok Mi's clothes and apartment and I love the soft relationship she has with Ryan.
First, I wasn't the biggest fan of Kim Jae Wook as Ryan. But I very quickly warmed up to him and by the end I was completely in love, mostly because Ryan is such an incredibly soft, caring, gentle and supportive boyfriend. I hope I'll one day find someone who is as supportive of my weird hobbies and obsessions as he is of Deok Mi's.
Park Min Young is charming as always and I actually think this is one of he best roles. Furthermore, I loved Park Jin Joo, One, Ahn Bo Hyun and Kim Bo Ra. The scenes at the office, when the main couple were fighting were absolutely hilarious and reminded me of awkward moments we've had at our office when someone (ok, that someone was me) was dating a co-worker. I also really liked the character development Hyo Jin went through. She ended up being super funny.
Deok Mi's father cleaning his rocks and hiding behind the curtain? Brilliant. Hyo Jin also cleaning rocks when she stayed with them? Comedic Genius. Actually, the father reminded me of my own dad a bit. My father often doesn't say much and often doesn't even listen to the conversation and people tend to get annoyed. He also has a hobby that he works on constantly - building model planes. Talking about his planes is when he really lights up. And if a potential son-in-law shows even the slightest interest in his planes, he'll have to look at them for hours. Recognizing that similarity, I really had a soft spot for Deok Mi's father.
But honestly, in the beginning there were so many relatable scenes. I constantly paused the drama to send a screencap to my friend like 'this is me', 'this is us' etc.
The only thing that bothered me, and this is where the SPOILER comes, is that Si An never found out that Deok Mi is Si Na Gil. I thought that was one of the most important points..? Especially since he is now her brother-in-law..? And in the beginning they emphasized how he thinks Si Na Gil must be such a special fan... Revealing it would've definitely made for some comedic relief.
All in all, a funny, heart-warming and soft romantic comedy with a side of family drama - and very relatable for adult fangirls.

What was shoking for me - Koreans are getting more and more into skinship. Kisses and intimacy moments were rich in intensive moments, which I really do appreciate! I still remember some dramas where main charakters finished with quick "chuuuu~", but here actors put an effort into it.
Delightly recommend :)

Enjoyable but not the best
Man oh man do I love me a good Park Min Young Drama. This is my 3rd one from her and each one that I watched I quite enjoyed. The storyline was simple so it didn't take a lot of brain cells to enjoy. It's a good palette refresher in between more heavy dramas. One of the negative points would be (and I saw this mentioned in another review) that the show could've ended 2 to 3 episodes before the actual end. I think there were a lot of "pointless" things added at the end and the show would've been fine ending on episode 13. I also think that the storyline was a little too predictable that's why I think that it should've ended sooner.
The actors (in my opinion) all did an excellent job and I don't believe there was any miscast in this drama. Loved the chemistry between the two ML. I think that Kim Sun Young did a fantastic job in her role.
I don't see a rewatch value as this was pretty much a one-time watch for me, as is most romantic dramas.
Overall I still recommend this drama as you can still enjoy it.

plot involving the paintings/his past wasn't strong enough to carry the drama, they added additional childhood connections that were unnecessary and unbelievable. And the owner of the gallery was vile but flat as cardboard. Watch it for the romance/heat/chemistry, not for the actual storyline.

Extremely cute and warm rom-com with no break-ups and complications
Her private life is a perfect rom-com that focuses on healthy relationship between the leads. A lot of people have mentioned how it gets boring in the second half, which is precisely because it focuses on the main leads developing their relationship in a realistic and healthy manner, without much conflicts. And that is what I loved about it!Personally, I felt it was a perfect balance of romance, drama and comedy. The chemistry between the leads is absolutely amazing, and their love is soo cute. I was smiling and grinning throughout their scenes! I was just disappointed over one trope that they introduced at the end, which was absolutely unnecessary and did not add any substance to the plot. Yet it turned out sweet in the end soo I'm not that mad (also some great warm dialogues between the families because of it which I liked.)
Overall, I really enjoyed this drama. So if you are looking for a rom-com with no breakups, no misunderstandings, mature relationship and light hearted plot, then this is the one for you! I'm sure this drama will put you into a good mood for the rest of your day. :)

Surround yourself with the things that make you happy
Bro this show is so cute, actually, no that’s not how I would describe it. I really like it, I watched this show when it first came out and I rated it a 7.5. I honestly don’t see why I would rate this higher. It’s pretty good, there are many things that I wouldn’t agree with. For example, how they treat an idol, Deok-mi treated the idol like it was everything. But I liked the message I got from the show, “fill your life with things that make you happy.” Her room was an example of how you should fill your life with things that make you happy, The plot of the show did fall a bit and got a bit boring at times, but I would give the show credit for how it shows the life of a fangirl + dating. As a fangirl, I feel like dating would be weird, not for me but for my partner. Her Private Life isn’t really an old show but like it’s not like the new ones. You can see in the plot that it’s really different from shows nowadays, you won’t see your typical girl getting kidnapped or the relationship between the two mains be in danger. I feel like this show is a show you would return to after a hard day. There are really cute moments in the show but also there are mature moments. When saying mature I don’t mean they will yk get sexual but their relationship is a mature relationship. This is not a high school, first love drama, it’s a drama of mature people in their mid-30s. But it’s worth a watch, both the actors were perfect at their roles. I’ve watched a show with Min-young in it this year and she basically has the same role in this show, she fits it so perfectly. And Jae-wook is so hot, that’s really all. ALSO, let’s talk about the soundtrack, ITS SO FUCKING GOOD AHHH, I LOVE IT, it fits the show and it feels nice to listen to 10/10.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Among the healthiest couples in dramaland.
So it seems that Secretary Kim is now a fangirl as well. Jokes aside, this drama was everything that I expected from a Park Min-Young drama, and a bit more. After being on my "to watch" list since its premiere, I finally decided to give this drama a shot, as I was looking for something light and fun to watch, and I was not disappointed. So, this is supposed to be a "mature" romcom, and by "mature", they mean that the couple we follow will actually act like a real couple. And I wasn't disappointed, Ryan Gold and Sung Duk-Mi looked and felt like a real couple, that understood and supported each other in everything. Instead of unnecessary jealousy and miscommunication that lead to conflict, they handled everything that came their way as adults, with conversations.
After watching this drama, I'm scared that I'll never find something like this again, not because the story is original. No, far from that, this drama has a lot of clichés, don't get me wrong, but the way they went about it felt exciting, and they even twist some of the clichés we are used to. I believe that it will be difficult to find another couple that is healthy and mature like them, that won't create drama for the sake of drama.
This drama is more character-driven than plot-driven, because for the most part there's no plot. In my opinion, the drama is divided into two parts. The first half is about Duk-Mi's private life, and the second half is about Ryan's private life, which is good, since we get to know both parts of the couple. Also this drama is filled with amazing romantic scenes, and don't get me started on the kisses and couple chemistry, they were amazing!
The story begins with the typical misunderstanding that leads to a "fake relationship". While I initially found an odd solution to the problem, after a while I just accepted it, and yes, this kind of trope has been done a million times already, but I enjoyed it regardless.
The side characters were interesting, I really liked Duk-Mi's family and how her mother just became everyone's mother. I liked Hyo-Jin's character growth, although her existence was merely a plot device in my opinion. The Duk-Mi bestfriend was really funny too, although I didn't like her storyline very much, I think they could've done something slightly different. My biggest criticism has to be the second lead, don't get me wrong, I loved him in the beginning, until he became the typical annoying second lead. But that's not the worse part, for me the worst was that they basically presented Eun-Gi has a brother to Duk-Mi, someone Duk-Mi grew up with, and that was raised by her mother, so it was very weird to watch this man, that Duk-Mi considers family, a brother, having feelings for her, I couldn't get used to it till the very end.
Acting and Cast: This drama had an excellent cast and good acting, which made it both captivating and not boring. In addition to having great chemistry with her male counterpart, Park Min-Young was perfect in this role. No gonna lie, at the beginning I found Kim Jae-Wook to be an odd choice for this type of drama, as I saw him to match a more villainy rule, but God was I wrong, this man was amazing playing the confident Ryan Gold. And I think overhaul all the cast was really good in this drama.
Cinematography and Sound/Music: Starting with Music, this drama has an incredibly catchy intro song. Although I thought most of the OST was adequate and what I expected from a romcom, I found Cha Sin-Ahn's group song "snapshot" to be rather annoying. As for sound mixing, I think they did a good job. The way they associated a melody with the bubble paintings was great; every time I heard it, I knew one of those paintings would appear. As for cinematography, this drama looks good, I think this is something common in romcoms, they always look pretty and bright with low contrast, even with the sepia filter in the flashback scenes. They also used a "photoshoot" style editing in some cases, that fifty percent of the time made sense, and the other fifty not that much. And except for some odd effects I noticed on a particular scene, this drama looks very pretty.
Will I watch this drama again? Probably yes, I really enjoyed this drama, and especially this couple, and I can see myself watching it again when I want to watch something light and fun with a healthy couple. Do I recommend it? Yes, if you like light hearted, slightly cliché, character driven dramas, with a healthy couple who communicate and a lot of great romantic scenes.
