now i know my taste in dramas and i am always going for the one with an amazing and gut wrenching plot with plenty of various elements and genres thrown in, but i do also love dramas that are easy and funny to watch. which is why, albeit its lack of depth and in all of its shallowness, i wholeheartedly love true beauty.
i've rewatched probably 7 times already--it's become my background show when eating or when i'm bored or when i want to distract myself! and if i had the choice to rewatch it for the first time, i would absolutely make that choice a million times over.
however, the storyline is somewhat weak (the webtoon's story was better developed, likely because it took practically four years to complete and this drama was meant only for 16 episodes, but still, and also i'm biased because the webtoon did my boy seojun justice whereas the drama did not!!!) and the acting is mediocre, but probably largely due to the fact that these roles simply cannot display one's full skillset. anyway stan true beauty and cha ni's vocals and astro and sf9 :p

Funny and lighthearted. A good drama to start off with for newbies.
Started off strong. It is a very entertaining drama in the beginning, and I related all too strongly with the main character. So that definitely got me hooked right away. Somewhere in the later middle episodes it does get very cliché and there's a bit too much ridiculous unnecessary drama that had me eyerolling quite a few times with how certain characters were suddenly acting. Once I got passed that bit it was back to being enjoyable again. So all-in-all, I did enjoy it and would recommend it!Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

An honest opinion after watching the drama 3 times.
Everyone acted well. Harassment really exists, I don't understand how there are people who still can't believe that this exists. In a society as empty and superficial as Korea, being beautiful is the most important thing in your life.
Honestly, speaking from a person who has been harassed to the extreme, I could easily empathize with the protagonist. It didn't make me cry like My ID is beauty Gangnam but I could easily empathize with it.
There are two things that I will not be able to tolerate and forgive about this drama and they were two things (maybe they will hate me for this because everyone loves SML, but really? To torment someone who was once your best friend so much for your suicide another friend, when it had nothing to do with it? Seojun didn't even want to listen to Sooho's words about what had really happened that night, not even once. Until he accidentally overhears the argument that Sooho is having with his father, where he was able to get out all the pain that he had carried inside for years and that had also traumatized him so much.
That's why I don't have secondary school syndrome.
And then there is Soo Jin, I know that her family life was problematic but she has no justification for having betrayed Joo Kyung, who really loved her and had confessed his biggest secret to her, because he trusted her.
I go from competing with Sooho for
school grades to considering it as something of their own. As if Joo Kyung was taking away something that was never his. I really liked how Sooho marked a boundary between him and her and at the same time protected her girlfriend so that she won't be hurt anymore. Honestly, if it had been Joo Kyung, I wouldn't have forgiven her so easily. Because this could have turned into something much worse than her situation at the other school, if it wasn't for Sooho and Seojun protecting her so much. I have to admit that I really liked that Seojun will confront Joo Kyung's bullies in a tough and forceful way.
But the breakup between Joo Kyung and Sooho seemed stupid to me. First of all because she was the one who made the first mistake of not telling him about the photo shoot she had with Seojun. It is obvious that anyone would get angry, especially if you know perfectly well that the person who took those photos with your partner really has an interest in her and after you force him to hide your relationship with him but don't have any problems seeing yourself back in rumors with another person. Although Sooho didn't act well at all, I can totally understand her anger.
Although Joo Kyung did have personal progress, which never happens in weebtoon and that was a relief for me. Herself confronting her former stalkers (although the scene was very funny it was also very meaningful). And that she would no longer be afraid to go out on the street without makeup and would accept herself as she was.
The drama is very funny and everyone acted very well.
I wouldn't say that it is a drama with a very spectacular or special plot but you are very entertained. From the first episode to the end.
I really liked all the changes they made regarding the weebtoon. Generally I am one of the people who likes them to be faithful to their original work. But I have read the weebtoon from beginning to end. It doesn't really leave you any moral or reflection on anything. It's too superficial. It really took me a lot to finish reading it. What didn't happen to me with the drama, so it was a relief that many things that were very poorly done in the weebtoon will change.

A decent fun watch!!
I have a lot to say about this drama!! After watching the first episode, I decided to drop it but randomly continued to watch the 2nd ep after a few days and from there it got addictive and I binged it in 2 days straight!! The drama is nowhere perfect!! The story is the same basic story with the lesson of inner beauty! What raises it to a superior level is how self-aware the show is!! It’s supposed to be cheesy and cringey and the makers know it and capitalize on it which is the biggest strength of the show!! It was super funny at times..but it was also very hear touching where it was required!! All in all it had every ingredient of a good Teen drama!!Coming to the characters, it comes as no surprise that Han Seo Jun was my favourite character!! But having said that I would also state that as a couple Su Ho and Joo Gyung worked better for me and I actually wanted them to be endgame despite Seo Jun being my favourite character!! Hwang In Yeop gave an amazing performance and showed his diverse range of acting!! Eun Woo was perfect for the role he was cast..I have heard a lot of complaints about his acting being stiff! I can’t judge from just this drama because here his acting suited the composed character that he played!! Ga Young’s performance also was good though her unnecessary aegyo voice irritated me a bit!!
The one major complaint I had was that the drama dropped in quality from the moment Su Ho and Joo Gyung became a couple! Nothing to do with their chemistry which was good!! It’s just the writing wasn’t as crisp after that as it had been till then! Also Kdramas really need to know when to stop and not keep on dragging just to complete 16 eps..This drama peaked at ep 14 with Joo Gyung realizing her worth and from there it just plateaued and never went high again!! If they would have wrapped up the show there itself, this would have been a far better show!! Still a pretty good time!! I definitely recommend to watch it once!!

best rom com drama with deep meaning
I started this drama on my friends recommendation and I enjoyed every second of it. Story is about a girl Lim Ju Kyung who was bullied by her classmates for being ugly. she lost interest in life and attempt to sucide. But when she transfered her school , it changed her life. makeup changed her life. she became the goddess of the school and got attention and friends. I liked the stroy. it's may be the best rom com series I watched this year. it was heart warming. it's one of those series I didn't get bored for even a while. the way she tried to hide her makeup from her classmates was damn humourous. it is a must watch.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Enjoyable Watch :)
This drama is cute and warm, idk how to say but everything is so sweet EXCEPT for their relationship.Good Points:
1. Love the friendship between the classmates. ( It was cute even though some of them are annoying b*cthes )
2. Funny and awkward moments. ( I laughed a lot every time, and it was fun. But the legendary car accident scene gave me headache tho. )
3. Hee Gyung & Jun Woo's love story ( They have soo much CHEMISTRY and I shipped them more than the leads)
Bad Points:
1. Relationship ( As a team Seojun, I understand Suho is also a great choice but the main lead relationship was full of misunderstandings )
2. Main Storyline ( The story was pretty basic, and nothing else if there's no romance trope )
3. The message?? ( More of the another episode, the real purpose of it become hidden and hidden, when the story was too focus of the love-square plot, the drama tends to forget about the beauty standards and FL's insecurities )
Overall a nice drama and I enjoyed it but not a must watch. And if you're a Team Soejun like me, you'll even end up suffering.

Nothing unexpected; everything done well
A timid girl who has been viciously bullied for being “ugly” learns to do makeup and then transfers to a new school, where she gains immediate popularity for her “beauty.” People from her past keep showing up and threatening to expose her secret, while the male lead—who once saved her life, although she doesn’t know that for half the series—supports her unconditionally and competes with the local “bad boy” to win her heart. Great exploration on beauty, worth, and the things we do to fit into societal standards. The two male leads’ bromance is delightful to watch.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

I'm not sure why I see so many people complaining about this drama and the amount of hate it's receiving is unnecessary. I went into the drama having no knowledge about the webtoon and based on the synopsis I expected this drama to be the typical cliché high school drama plot with a beauty component to it. And with that I really enjoyed the comedic scenes, fluffiness of the whole drama and the chemistry b/w the leads. I think the ones that didn't enjoy it were team Seo Jun fans or had high expectations as if something more deep would happen to the plot. I had to say this because while watching the drama I skimmed through some reviews and comments making sure not to spoil myself and saw many complaining about things that were expected of the drama. Now onto the things I loved and didn't like in this drama!
Aspects of the drama that I loved:
- Even though Suho's character starts off with the reputation of being cold, I'm glad he quickly shows his true and soft side in the beginning without the gradual need of the FL to "tear down his walls"
- Totally agree with the top comment by the name Parveen on this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCiYZRPZ1Hs) regarding Suho's sad life, why he's become cold and discussing the hate his character got while many felt more bad for Seojun
- This is my first drama watching Moon Ga Young and I enjoyed her acting, didn't feel awkward at all and will try out her other dramas
- I loved Seojun's character of being an actual softie too like Suho, always helping JG and looking out for her. Near the end I started to feel bad for his unrequited love. I thought I'd dislike his character in the beginning but quickly latched on and enjoyed watching him
- I personally enjoyed the comedy and the exaggerated humor as I found myself laughing A LOT and it really set the lighthearted vibes for me
- I watched this after watching "My ID is Gangnam Beauty"; I tried to not have a biased opinion but I can say that this is much better than the latter as the chemistry b/w the leads were so good and Eunwoo portrayed a character that had more substance compared to MIGB. The emotions he portrayed were much more genuine with his eye smile and he wasn't restricted to being so monotone like he was in MIGB
- Loved JG's family dynamics, her sister having a unique personality and her relationship with Mr. Han was cute
- Liked how Suho found out about Jugyung's bare face early on so it wasn't like some secret that was dragging on and made it realistic as he recognized her
- First half of drama kept me going and was enjoyable so I'd likely re-watch it whenever I want something lighthearted
Aspects that I didn't like:
- Many have complained about the cringeworthy-ness in this drama however what made me cringe the most was when Suho got hit by a car and the slow motion of him floating mid-air was what irked me
- I think Suho flying to the US to see his father was unnecessary. It felt like the writers wanted to drag on the drama or had no ideas left. It felt rushed and disconnected in my opinion and for that reason I really think the drama could've done 14 episodes instead of 16. If they had something extra for the plot then that would've added more interest but it was just the typical "having to be separated which dragged on the romance". If there wasn't such a disconnect at the end I would've given an 8.5
- I was hoping for some sort of closure or lesson to be learnt near the end about beauty standards within society. However it just seemed like it was all about the love triangle happening and the friendship b/w Suho, Seojun and Seyeon which started getting boring. Not to disregard the stigma about Seyeon's death but I think the plot got boring and faded out with the constant torment Suho was experiencing about his friend's death
- The sudden breakup because Suho didn't want Jugyung to wait wasn't necessary, just another way to prolong the episodes
- Due to it being a cliché high school romcom, I expected the love triangle but it would've been more fresh if Seojun had another love interest? And maybe if Soojin continued playing the protective bestfriend for Jugyung rather than being jealous and trying to steal Suho
I didn't expect to cry so much when Jugyung's face got revealed and was suffering as I relate to it personally. I recommend going in with low expectations, just enjoy it and you'll like it. I think for many they expected a lot which I'm not sure why and came out disappointed. If rating in terms of a lighthearted romcom I'd give it an 8 and could go up to 8.5, just didn't like the last 2-4 episodes as it faded out a bit. Overall, I definitely recommend this drama for any romcom lovers, its lighthearted, funny, fluffy and enjoyable!

___
True beauty is a really exciting drama. If your interesting in comedy, romance love triangle person, this movie is perfect for you. Every role of this drama, is perfect. Especially, Ju Geong role and her brother. I found them as comedians. Though, I am still sad that Seo Jun didn't end up with Ju Geong. Like, the writers are literally hurting Seo Jun every episode.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

second lead syndrome is hitting hard
the overall plot of this show was really good, but the ending really disappointed me. throughout the first half of the show, i had a big conflict about which male lead i'm supporting, but at the end i 100% supported seojun. i was crushed by the ending, considering that even after all of his hard work she still did not want him. when he finally decided to let her go, i was BAWLING my eyes out.i feel like the message of this show is really beautiful; those who really love you wouldn't care about your looks. however, i feel like at the same time it's giving a message that people won't love you if you are not pretty enough, which is (unfortunately) somewhat true in our generation.
overall this show is pretty good, i really loved the aesthetic of it too!
