Through their eyes....

This movie is currently airing on local cinema in my country so that is why i already watched this movie. Gonna give the review with less spoiler as much as i can.

Personally, i haven't watched the original aka Always so i wouldn't know the storyline at all when i watch your eyes tell. The storyline is really beautiful and i believe Always would be top notch movie even i haven't watched it. Ryusei and Yuriko really did their best to deliver heart-warming and sometime aching love story. Love with the acceptance of one another's flaws. Did i cry? Yes i did to the point i had to change my face mask since i wet it.

Through eyes both metaphorically (in case of Kaori, she could tell whatever Rui's do even though she suffers eyes impairment) and literally (in case of Rui whom could find warmth of love and affection in Kaori), you could see the meaning of what the love is.

OST ofc you know sung by BTS and it completes the movie. Worth watch for you who loves romance stories.

her eyes..

a love story that would get you into your feet, i watched this because of ryusei and wasn't expecting anything but the movie made me cry so hard and the story and chemistry was built so well?. It was a roller coaster ride and i love how the movie made me feel different kind of emotions. I also admire the female lead because it's not easy to live alone whilst you're also blind plus her bright personlity bring me hope that we can still be happy despite of our illness and problems. Both their acting are performed well and they were able to portray the character as if it was them.Super highly recommended plus the title suits the movie a lot?

I watched the Korean version (titled ALWAYS) three years ago and it didnt give me the same effect as this Japanese version did. As I have already watched the Korean version, I somehow knew what the story was all about and how it'll end. I knew it was a sad movie but I have already prepared for it. I remember the K-version wasnt really THAT sad as it didnt really make me cry.

Man, the remake (Japanese version - Your Eyes Tell) dehydrated my eyes and soaked my sheet. It is WAY better than the previous version. The ending, the storyline, the music, and the action scenes are a lot, lot better!

The casting was great! Ryusei is one of my fave Japanese actor and he did a really good job in this movie. The female actress was okay, I wasn't just convinced with her acting as a blind person. But the movie is great nonetheless!

Rewatch value: 100
Great, great ending. ❤️

Two word: Must See

This is quick. It's a must see. I rarely review but I know many of us were worried to see a remake of our beloved "Always" and go thru that again.

It's worth it.
500 words minimum aye lol

The male lead is amazing. He is in top star status in my opinion. He's earned it. What he pulls off here is so impressive .

Female lead does a great job. Everything we are supposed to feel we feel.

Grateful they made this film. Really something special.

Take the chance see this.

Slow Build But Great Movie

The storyline has been done before, but I like how it was executed here and that the music didn't overpower the acting/verbal moments. There was drama, action, emotional, cute and raw moments. The ML did really well considering half the time he wasn't allowed to say anything. FL was sweet and yet empowering. They had enough chemistry to make it believable. Incorporating the dog was smart, however not correctly executed towards the end*(at the end of this review I will explain, however it is a spoiler alert). Great MMA/fight scenes, including the training.

Due some parts not really being done well and really slow build of the story, that is why it's not a 10/10 for me. Definitely a good watch, that has scenes that will tug at your heart. 100% Rewatchable.

SPOILER ALERT
*The dog obviously knew him by scent and found the ML quickly. So why, (when she was trying to find Rui again on the street), didn't she take the dog,? It would have dragged her straight to him. Also in the pottery shop, the dog should've been trying to pull her back out the door, while barking.

Also FL sculpted his face from what her hands remembered, so she should've recognized him from that alone at the hospital. Her feeling his back muscles and thinking she knew him, not likely. Feeling his scar, the one she thought was a burn, that would've made more sense. Or even his scent, because she knew it from before due to her heightened other senses, that would be believable.

The part about the sea glass and it's connection to him, the ocean and her, was nice. Same with the song and music box.

All in all it was a great movie and I did enjoy it.

Oh, this movie was wonderful. Truly wonderful. Sweet and touching and heartbreaking and just... so lovely. And Yokohama Ryusei as Rui simply shined here.

Rui's story was so sad. He made mistakes, terrible mistakes, and he paid for them harshly and just as he was about to start a new life, it all went to hell again, courtesy of Machida Keita's big bad, Kyosuke. Ouch.

The love story between Rui and Akari was so beautiful. Two people down on their luck finding each other and making do and becoming happy, it made my heart swell three sizes. Akari was simply amazing and her love for Rui - and his for her - was just... wow.

There weren't many people who truly loved Rui, besides Akari there were only two who wanted the best for him and who did not want to use him - the nun at the orphanage and his coach at the gym - and I loved both of them. The last time Rui and the coach saw each other broke my heart...

This movie pushed all my buttons, like all of them. It was so good!

I've re-watched this 3 times already, what more is there to say?

What a beautiful movie. Even though I found the beginning quite slow, in general, it's a pretty chill movie. The OST is exquisite, and I'm not even a BTS fan. It tied in very well with the overall drama and was used in the right places as well. The movie gets better and better towards the end as more emotions are shown. The overall storyline was great, but not spectacular or new imo. But in this movie I really just loved how you can see how both characters loved each other and it really warmed my heart(literally melted it into a goopy puddle). I don't want to give spoilers but I really recommend you watch this movie, 100% not a waste of time!

Both Korean original and Japanese remake are great. I like JPN remake little better.

I watched both movies and both are made great, however, this remake made me cry lot more than original Korean version. I felt more inner emotions of main leads in this movie. I think it’s because actings were maybe better?

ML actor Ryusei was much better in acting than FL lead in this remake. Her acting was little inexperienced to me and she wasn’t convincing to me compare to Ryusei. His eyes, body language and face expressions were amazing.

It’s little slow in the beginning, but this remake will make you cry at the same time it gives you heartwarming. I definitely recommend watching it.

every teardrop is a waterfall

'your eyes tell' portrays a touching and heartfelt story of two people who struggle while trying to find happiness and peace in life. kaori is a blind woman who lost her family in an accident. rui was once a promising kickboxer, now haunted by his dark past.
the sweet yet painful storyline complemented by a delightful soundtrack includes complex-built characters whose genuine emotions shattered my heart into thousands of pieces. the movie is simply charming and reminds the viewers of the importance of understanding, forgiveness and acceptance.

Welcome Home Rui

Story/Acting/Cast/Characters
The storyline follows 93% of "Always" (the Korean version) in the storyline, characters, and even dialogue. Yet, the subtle changes made me enjoy this version a lot more than I thought I would. It differs from the Korean version in that it has less of a romantic melodrama feel. Even some lighthearted comedic scenes didn't make it to the Japanese version. The warm lighting from the Korean version was missing, and instead, we get more cool tone coloring. Another thing was the age. I thought it was off seeing such a young-looking actor play the male lead who is supposed to be in his 30's, but instead, they changed the Japanese lead character to be 24 years old.

The main difference that I see from the drama would be with the male lead Antonio/Rui/Ojisan. In the Japanese version, he becomes more stoic. He doesn't talk much, expresses himself less, and comes off a bit more aloof. In my opinion, this adds to the change in Antonio's past that I found lacking in "Always." With the slight change, I feel like the story shifts, and the screentime focuses more on Antonio and less on Kashiwagi Akari.

Yoshitaka Yuriko did great at expressing a bright Kashiwagi Akari, but I had trouble feeling her conviction when it came to the emotional scenes. I'm not too familiar with her, nor do I watch many Japanese movies/dramas, so I'm not sure if this is a difference in how culture's express emotions that I'm not used to.

Music
It's interesting to see the use of music and how it gets incorporated into dramas/movies. In the case of this movie, music wasn't present here. There were two distinct moments where I remember the music was when "Your Eyes Tell" made a presence in the movie. There were many silent moments where it's just dialogue and the natural crickets and street sounds. Instead, the silence made the focus of the dialogue a lot more important and matched the feel of the show a lot more. Unlike most dramas/movies, the lack of music made it so that the movie didn't try to extract emotions from us at dramatic moments in the storyline. Yet, we still got those same emotions due to the acting and directing, which was worth noting.

Overall Comparison Likes and Dislikes (spoilers included.)
Positives:
1. The theme of "おかえり" and "ただいま" was truly heartfelt in this movie. It tied into Antonio/Rui's backstory of being an orphan who never felt a sense of belonging in the world and, along the way, makes decisions that aren't the best.

2. Antonio's character setup leads to the writers wanting to create some character development for Antionio, and we see that and done quite well for a movie like this. Antonio wants redemption for himself, and even though he got his sentence and left the group, he felt like it was not enough. Especially with the reveal of his connection with Akari. His internal struggle was always there, being his weakness and now his strength to move on.

3. While I don't find the story of Romeo and Juliet beautiful, I do find that Shakespear writes beautifully. The line used in both movies, "Her eye discourses; I will answer it." I love how there was just a little bit more focus on in the Japanese version (literally one extra scene of Antonio staring at the braille words of it). So, in case you don't know, this was when Romeo was comparing Juliet's eyes to stars and how they shine ever so brightly. I found this line kind of ironic in this movie but so fitting. Akari's lack of sight is what brought them together, but at the same time, her eyes were the barrier to their relationship. And when I say "barrier," I mean in terms of how she lost her sight.

4. Some dialogue that was altered for the movie added more emotional depth to their relationship. I can think of three main dialogue scenes: the trip, the talking about the future, and the ending scene.

5. An extra positive point, I enjoyed the kickboxing scenes here, probably due to the angles and cuts. Yokohama Ryusei doesn't wear a tank top like how So Ji Sub did in the Korean version, so you'll definitely see his abs.

Negatives (specific scene spoilers. For this part, I suggest watching it first and then coming to read this to see if you have similar or different opinions):
In my opinion, there were three scenes in the Japanese version that were lacking for me and were pivotal to the movie.
1. Face tracing scene by the window. This scene should have emphasized her tracing his face and less of Akari holding Antonio's face. I thought this scene was so beautifully done in the Korean version from both So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo. The way she slowly traced his face with her fingers and tried to envision how he would look like. On the other end, he was shy and felt so much emotion for the woman in front of him. I didn't feel those same emotions in the Japanese version and was disappointed with the lack of emphasis. The reason why is that later on, when the female lead goes and tries to sculpt his face, she closes her eyes and tries to remember his features that she felt through her hands. We know that she was trying to remember this exact scene to recreate his face. In the Korean version, how she traced the sculpted clay was similar to how she traced his face in that scene.

2. Back Massage. While it was short, the back massage scene had a bit more emphasis in the Korean version and made sense later. Jung Hwa sat on his back longer to massage him while they talked, with cuts of her fingers massaging his back. Later on at the hospital, it wasn't until she flipped him onto his stomach and massaged him the same way that she felt the familiarity of the man she was massaging. The Japanese version had less focus on her massaging him on the bed, and she didn't even turn him on his back in the hospital later on but still felt the familiarity of him.

3. Reveal of Ajusshi/Ojisan. The way that the Korean version had it set up so that Jingga was the one who hinted that it was his dad came in sets: when Jingga ran to Ajusshi and knocked him over, Jingga and Jung Hwa staring at Ajusshi's back, and Jingga kept barking while they were inside. How they got the dog who plays Jingga to cooperate and made its body language seem like it recognized Ajusshi, along with the focus of Jingga was seamless. Suku is still a cute dog, but how the director included everything but the part where the female lead and dog stared at the male lead's lonely backside limping off. That part was replaced with the focus on Akari, saying, "What's wrong?" and then back to Ojisan with Akari and Suku blurred out. Then inside the store, instead of facing the door and barking, Suku was just barking. I don't know, this seems silly, but I feel like it added a lot to the reveal of our Ajusshi/Ojisan.
