It's quite exciting (edited)

Even if the plot feels less fanfictional than the webtoon version I kind of prefer the series... I have my reasons like in the webtoon Ji-hyuk's character wasn't really shown as the genre was biased to revenge but as the series is basically Rom-com, the plot is really showing the character 'Ji-hyuk' ... Many are dropping it cause of the 'unreasonable' entry of Ji-hyuk's ex fiance but in my opinion we needed it to know more about his character. Ngl ep 12 was really frustrating and just like most (former) female leads' behavior, Ji Won way of handling made be go all crazy... But I kinda get it ig.... Overall I think the minor changes were quite needed and let's hope it can satisfy us till the end!
Today was the last airing and I finished watching it... I am really satisfied with the plot specifically the death of Min-hwan made it really satisfying compared to that in the webtoon... Also Ji-hyuk's ex -fiancé's plot was quite well shown! Whoever changed the plot into this one I must say they did a great job... Likewise I too, am changing my prejudgment.

Ji-had Redo: From Drab to Fab 〰OR〰 Protect yourself, don't project yourself. °VG°

The 1-sentence review: 〰This is a pre-packaged, off-the-shelf, watchable romance that has some nice seasoning and truly bright moments for romance fans〰

Is it in the top 20 that I would show a new viewer to Asian programming? I doubt it's in the top 50, but for a romfan it will pass the time very nicely. I'll stick some toes over the edge of the cliff and say it's worth watching for Song Ha Yoon's performance alone. She EATS her role up. Park Min Young is always worth watching. Na In Woo isn't bad to look at, either.

This drama is actually an advice column. There's plenty of useful truths to be gleaned, such as:

👠Shoes your friends wisely - eh, ‘Choose,’ I mean.,

👠We accept the love we think we deserve (A quote from The Perks Of Being A Wallflower).

👠Keep your friends close and your enemies closer (until the battle is over)

👠Statements don't grow up to be cliches because they're mostly false.

👠Some people just get used to losing. Some losers don't realize what (big picture) losers they are and will do anything to avoid (small picture) losing. Losing once in awhile is not a bad thing, as pride is always the biggest problem. Humility is good for the soul. Being a doormat, though, will rob your life's essence.

Ouch. Ep1 HURTS. Kang “Ji” Won has led a painful life and now she's close to death: Stage 4 cancer. “I never knew happiness,” she says. Horrible husband. Horrible family. Horrible friends. Her husband & bff cause her death and now they will enjoy the life insurance payout. The End.

But wait! There's more! After the end, Ji gets a reset. She wakes up back in time, year 2013… Meltdown! Is this a dream? If so, is 2023 the dream or 2013.2❔ Let the Chippies fall where they may… and Ji has a couple snagging Chippies in her life.

Marry My Husband? I skipped it once or twice because the title sounds boring. That's typical for Kdramas. Some of them don't look like they'll be good and they end up being amazing. This show is a 2024 release that is rated 88 on AWiki. It is 1 season consisting of 16 65-minute episodes. To go along with MMH, one has to accept a couple premises. There's no acceptable reason or method laid out for the time slip. It's connected to the FL's father, but that's all we know. Our FL learns early on that fated consequences are, indeed, FATED. In her prior life she had a crescent-shaped scar on her arm from a coffee pot burn. She remembers the day, and manages to avoid getting burned, but our ML gets burned instead, & ends up with a scar exactly like the one Ji had. Therefore, she proceeds slowly. Methodically. Carefully. She won't break up with her boyfriend & future killer until she's certain she's transferred her bad fate with him onto her frenemy/her killer's aider-and-abetter, & her lifetime friend, Soo-Min. They lay down a satisfactory (enough) premise.

It's also illogical at times. It's constructed in a way that's easy to ride along with as everything is attributable to fate. Fates can be transferred to others, but not avoided. They use physical objects, like shoes & candy, to reset the scene & channel ill fates to those who deserve it. After a person opens a door s/he never would/should have in ep15, & allows another party to barge in - it just wouldn't happen - I then had to stop, reflect, & admit that the whole show is built on an arguably silly premise. But I'd been enjoying it w/o a care-to-logic until then, which is indicative of skill & good execution. Just take the ride & don't think too much. If you can do that, the show is good.

Otikay?

It's 2013. Again. What does Ji do?

🍬Break up with the jerk.
🍬Buy stocks.
🍬Stop being a doormat.

Being a doormat is not an easy habit to quit, though. Ji gets help. She's made new friends at work and she, unbeknownst to her, has an angel watching over her. There's almost 19 hours of programming, which gives the show runners lots of time to methodically stroll from plot point to plot point. It takes our leads a long time to get together. They have legitimate concerns. The prior timeline was brutal to Ji, and she proceeds tentatively in order to deflect ALL of her bad fate onto her tormentors. After the break-up, the coffee pot/scar incident occurs, and she decides to soften her stance on her relationship with her ex, Min Hwan - just until she leverages the potential outcome. Many Kdramas have a slower pace (Cdramas are even slower and more drawn out) - this is just more of the same, but it rolls along steadily enough.

Park Min Young, a truly special talent, is the FL, Kang Ji. I've seen her in What's Wrong with Secretary Kim-6.8 (apologies, it's cute, but overrated imho) Forecasting Love and Weather-6.8, When the Weather Is Fine-9 (it's brilliant) & Her Private Life-8 (This one deserves the accolades that Sec-Kim gets. It's adorable)

Na In Woo (It's Okay to Be Sensitive, Spark-6.4) plays Yoo Ji Hyuk. He's a tad geeky and wears ill fitting suits that look more like tents. That is by design, as his character gets a needed upgrade after exposure to our FL. Purely observationally, this actor looks like a giant next to the female actors, and he also has the largest Adam's apple I've ever seen. He's an impressive looking man.

Lee Yi Kyung (Descendants of the Sun-8.3, Eulachacha Waikiki) portrays the weasel bf, Park Min Hwan. Song Ha Yoon (Fight for My Way, Intimate Strangers) portrays Jung Soo Min, Ji"s frenemy, and she does It marvelously. The character is yicky-icky, but the actress has a tough job, acting as a near split-personality who does drama better than ElizabethTaylor, & she sticks the landing. In fact, by ep10, I was more impressed with her than anyone else. She's amazing. Lee Gi Kwang (Circle) portrays an old HS flame, Baek Eun Ho. Other than guest appearances, Choi Gyu-Ri's only other role is in Behind Every Star. In MMH she plays Ji"s new work friend, Yoo Hee-Yeon. She's adorable, & I hope to see more of her. Director, Park Won Gook also brought us Special Labor Inspector Jo, and Screenwriter Shin Yoo Dam wrote the high IQ show, Awaken.

The worst criticism of MMH is that it's boilerplate stuff, but the execution is above average. It also has worthy themes.

First of all, some people don't know when to stop. “Gosh, I can just never win against you!”, explains one conniving mean girl after losing at chess. “Well, I could predict your moves because you tried to take it all,” is the reply, followed-up with this pearl of wisdom. “A good leader should know how to let go of what is not theirs.”

Secondly, I am not my mother… Messed up parents leave a massive pile of refuse on top of their kids’ heads. I'm not trying to beat up on anyone. I doubt there is such a thing as parenting with zero regrets. The perfect parent has yet to be discovered. We need to try and keep the baggage to a minimum and the love at a maximum, though. Many kids can't dig out from underneath the mess heaped onto them and go through life at a disadvantage. Ji's mother ran off with another man - in a town so small everyone knows how many ‘spoons are in each household’. The gossip was vicious. The pressure was on Ji to not be like her mom. She has to look perfect. Act perfect. Cast no shadows. That's why she accepted the love she could “get”. She accepted the scraps that Soo Min & Min Hwan threw at her. There was no real love there. They only used her to bolster their own egos. She was a disposable ladder for them.

For thirds, we have another theme that is one of the harshest and cruelest truths that I know: Weakness is not okay. Weakness invites aggression, and weakness enables evil: In the end, weakness is not much different than evil, result-wise. It's easy to have compassion for somebody who's in a weak state, and we're all liable to be weakened at one point or another. That's just part of being human. Perhaps people who are weak get used to the compassion and the attention tossed their way. But, in the long run, it's only going to allow it in a bunch of trash. Evil must be opposed. It's like weeds. If you don't stamp them out they'll take over. I know this is brutal, but it happens to be 100% true. Sometimes running away is the best opposition, sometimes fighting back is. Lying around to be someone else's doormat is never the right course. Never, ever, ever, EVER. And: Wallowing in self-pity is not only pathetic, it's contemptible.

The writer dropped more pearls for us. Min Hwan is jealous of the boss because of the way Ji's been looking at him & visa-versa. He pulls her aside and unwittingly lets his character show: MH: “ I told you that jerk likes you.” JW: “He has a girlfriend.” MH: “You are so naive. Do you really think that matters to a guy? Do you know what? Every single man is a cheater. So he has a girlfriend? A guy could be married and still like someone else. You know what a man's dream girl is? An unfamiliar lady that he doesn't know yet. That's just how men are…” By the time Ji has this following exchange with Soo-Min she's grown significantly: S: “Why do you hate me?” J: “You're self-centered. Some people have a way of eroding those around them, and you are exactly that type of person…You don't trust easily. And it's only because you can't be trusted. You think that everyone is like you, and so you can't trust them.” When people tell you who they are, please believe them and protect yourself accordingly. Protect yourself, don't /project/ yourself.

Acting ✔. Writing ✔. Directing ✔ - all are good. The artistry is also smashing. Ji Hyuk's apartment features a whole wall dedicated to a cat-jungle-gym. The wardrobe is outstanding. Both of our leads dress in DRAB, until they decide to do better - to BE better. Then they go from drab to fab. “People are already treating me differently because of my outfit.” Ji just gave herself a makeover. She's experiencing first-hand how important appearances are in public life. It may not be right, but it is so. Turns out, once Ji Hyuk's in a suit that fits right, all the ladies in the office are checking him out, too. By the beginning of ep6 they look like a matched Ken & Barbie in black & white chic. There's a gorgeous wedding dress in one episode. The music is quite good, too. I Shazamed The Journey, by Kelley McRae and Wounds of Time, by Kim So Yeon. Half of episode 16 is a well executed wrap-up - something lacking in too many Kdramas in the past. As long as you enjoy Kromcoms, you will certainly find that MMH has its savory appeal.

In parting, I'll quote one k!ck@$$, self-actualized woman, Sarah Connor: “There is no fate but what we make.” 〰From The Terminator movies〰

Park Min Young's comeback is strong and striking

A really good adaptation of a webtoon into a drama . From the start to end, the drama was engaging. The drama will make you feel for the characters be it hatred or sympathy, love or disgust. Each and every cast member played their part extremely well be it the main leads or side characters or the antagonist.

PMY's comeback was phenomenal. After facing such a turbulent time in her life for past year where many expected her career to go down the hill, she bounced back with a stellar drama and took her spot back.

For me the star of the show is "Song Ha Yoon". She absolutely nailed her role and showed off her versatility. Hell I even forgot she is the same girl from the drama "Fighting For My Way". As much as I liked her character in that drama, I did end up hating her a lot in this one. She managed to do the same what Lim Ji Yeon did in "The Glory". So kudos to her.

Lee Yi Kyung's " Gwenchana Gwenchana" ain't working in this drama what his acting sure is. Dude played the role of a sleezy asshole extremely well.

The show is a worth spending time on if you are looking for some good and satisfying revenge drama.

My new favorite Park Min Young drama!

I usually go into dramas made from other works I am familiar with expecting disappointment. In the first couple of episodes, I even complained a bit in my head because I felt the lead was too timid in comparison. However, this drama was very satisfying to watch and I do not feel like it lacks in comparison to the original work in any way.

The show really hit positive marks for me all around, it is hard to find many flaws. The script was good the cast was amazing and Kang Ji Won's transformation was satisfying to watch. The ending made me smile and I do not know if I can ask for much more out of a drama. I understand all dramas are based on personal preferences and opinions but I do not see how, if you enjoy this style of drama, anyone would not at least enjoy their time with this drama.

If I had to nitpick I'd say the sound design did not have an impact on me whether the music or effects, be that either positive or negative. And I have to wonder if Kopiko is trying to become the 999 of Korean dramas. They seem to be paying for a lot of in-drama advertisements.

I would highly recommend the drama the acting and script were both top tier in my opinion and made up for whatever minor flaws the filming had. A show I believe I will rewatch multiple times in my lifetime. I give it an excellent rating.

Needed a RomCom Kdrama and it barely helped

OST and Production were pretty good, loved her massive fashion upgrade from shabby to "has a hot-rich boyfriend that can spoil her"/"has her own money" switch up. I felt the main leads were too calculative and manipulative (I’m pretty used to MLs and FLs fighting evil with good but this drama felt way too different and not in the best way, I was partially siding with the evil guys till the end 😭). In all, the storyline was okay, justice was served on all fronts, and it had its place for cute romance too.

Revenge is a dish best served cold...like the cooling plotline of Marry My Husband

If you want to watch Marry My Husband chances are that you either are a fan of one or more of the actors or you enjoy a good revenge plotline (or both!). The drama starts out very heavy with a terminal diagnosis followed by an ultimate betrayal of trust and love. Sprinkle in some time travel and the stage is set for what one hopes is a salty revenge tale full of thrown water glasses, screaming at each other in public places, and tears. Lots of tears.

What you get is....some of that. And when you do get it, the drama is really good. For the first half of the drama I was very interested in Kang Ji Won's quest for revenge and her budding entaglement with Yoo Ji Hyuk. I appreciate the acting of Song Ha Yoon -- she really made me despise Jung Soo Min and her neverending craftiness. I also found the plot device of fate still having to play out (whether it plays out on Kang Ji Won or someone she knows) to be really well done and interesting as well. For the first half of the drama I found myself eagerly waiting for the next episodes to drop so I could find out what happened next in the quest for revenge.

But then the plot just...cools. I don't know of any better way to put it than the plot just cools down. I think it happens in earnest shortly after Kang Ji Won and Yoo Ji Hyuk realize they both have time traveled. The way that this is revealed (through BTS songs) was interesting, but then the pacing gets all funky. I found this change of pace to be a bit jarring - almost like a car stopping and stalling. The change in pacing threw me out of the story so much that I was no longer invested in their budding romance at all...which became the main plot point over the revenge. Some episodes there were a million things happening and other episodes weemed to drag on. I accidentally fell asleep during two of the episodes....oops. By the time BoA entered the drama portraying Oh Yoo Ra I was pretty much done with the story and ready for it to end.

By the time the drama was over I was definitely ready for it to end. Did I enjoy it? Yes, I think I did despite what I would call its flaws. Would I rewatch it? Nope.

Darker, Deeper

Marry My Husband is a show I began anticipating after learning about Park Min Young's dedication to the role. I have read the webtoon but not the novel on which this is based.

Darker
Compared to webtoon the story is darker and intense. After 9th episode, whatever fluff and fun was left had been drained. The sudden genre change took time to adjust and the viewing became a chore. Upon acclimatising, the twists and turns are justified to nicely put a bow on it and give the perfect ending.

Deeper
The character development is deeper, making it easier to understand each character's actions like Yura and Sumin's. Although Yura's character comes off as unnecessary, the ending disproves it.

Not a 10
Sometimes a bit draggy to intensify the drama and the sudden genre change to melodrama makjangish vibe prevents this from making it into my favourites of 2024.

Top Notch acting
Song Ha Yoon and Lee Yi Kyung stole the show. On a side note, Park Min Young felt like a fashion goddess, " like you could wear that to work?!". Na In Woo was cute. He was different and better than his previous work Jinxed at first. Choi Gyu Ri was the best cast. Gong Min Jung was a bit stiff not sure if the character was meant to be like that. So good to see Ha Do Gwon in not a crazy-villain-role.

Music
Bad Liar and My All Dreams come true are easy on the ear. But the nod to BTS was a chef's kiss.

Marry My Husband nudges to not put up with regrets and fight on.

started watching this cuz I love me some second chance / revenge stories and I'm happy that I did. The story flows steadily as we get to see our FL find strength and allies while the antagonists get closer and closer to their doom. Revenge doesn't happen over night and its entertaining to watch Jiwon use her knowledge from future to lure Soomin and Min hwan to get her past fate.
Song Ha yoon and LeeYi kyung both do an incredible job playing their roles as Soomin and Min hwan. You know one is a great actor when you hate the character they play with passion. Never felt any pity for them ....like EVER. I wanted them gone in a sense that I wanted Jiwon to succeed in her revenge plan but at the same time wanted them to stay cuz watching them was entertaining. There are some interesting side characters and I wished we saw more of them as I think their stories were a bit rushed such as Yang Joo ran, Mr Lee, Eun ho and Yeon hee. all in all these are the strong points that made this watch enjoyable for me but now let me talk about small issues that kept me from giving it a 10. These might sound a bit childish but I couldn't ignore them while watching.
1. Yura . I understand the point of her characters existence and her roll in the "fate" aspect of the story but god she's hard to watch . I was not enjoying the chaotic evilness she brought to the story at all. we already had strong antagonists. competing with them cant be easy but Yura is in no way an interesting character at all. she's a cliche of all stuck up, rich brats from kdramas ever. the actress doesn't help the situation eighter. She is pretty awkward on screen. Also the addition of this character gave it a Makjang feeling ( search the term if you don't know the meaning) but everything became extreme all of sudden.
2. Music. OSTs are something I normally don't pay attention to. Here they use some bts songs to reveal a plot twist ( trying to not give out spoilers ) but the way they went about it was ..... something. Cuz why they decided to play spring day and dynamite SO LOUDLY?? them talking about it was enough. Im an Army so of course I was giggling and kicking my feet but that was just weird.

I normally don’t like to watch revenge dramas, but after “The Glory”, I became less reluctant to watch this sub-genre. I don’t like time-travelling shows either, unless it is done well. So I went into this drama with not much expectation, except I haven’t seen Min Young since “Her Private Life”, so I thought I should give this a chance, and boy, I’m glad I did.

This drama asks: what would you do with your life, if given a second chance to relive it? Ji Won travels back in time to do just that, after dying not from terminal cancer as she was pre-destined to do, but from an argument with her husband and her best friend about their infidelity. Ji Won uses this second chance to turn her life around, refusing to become the doormat she once was, and using the knowledge she gained from her future, to mitigate her losses and transfer them to somebody else.

It was also during this time travel that she learned about her unrequited boss’ feelings for her. It turns out that Ji Hyeok has been quietly supporting her all along despite her obliviousness.

This drama was filled with so much angst and intrigue that I relished every moment of it. I also liked the brooding Na In Woo when he shoots heart eyes at Park Min Young’s character. It is the first time I’ve seen In Woo as a main lead in a drama and he didn’t disappoint. I’ve loved Min Young since "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" so I already knew what I was expecting and she delivered.

Perhaps the only thing that prevented me from throwing a bottle at the TV is my hope that justice will be served in the end. It was frustrating to see Min Hwan and Soo Min acting so entitled and devious, as if the world owed them something and both blaming others for their misfortunes. Min Hwan’s mother is no better. I wanted to rip her hair out for treating her daughter-in-law so badly.

Despite these frustrations, “Marry My Husband” is a highly entertaining watch.

Never missed an episodes since day 1 it was aired!

Finished watching an amazing show of the year! The entire cast was perfect for their roles. Initially, I felt it was strange to see Mr. Gwenchana in a serious role, but after a few episodes, both antagonists started making my blood boil. The acting was awesome, and I want to give a special shoutout to Park Min-Young, Na In-Woo, Lee Yi-Kyung, and Song Ha-Yoon for their exceptional performances.

It was seriously amazing to watch this show, and I had been waiting for new episodes since January 1st. I was dying out of curiosity to know what would happen next. This show is a MUST WATCH! It has an amazing plot that keeps you curious from start to end.

Marry My Husband começou muito bem.
