2022 Watch Challenge List
This is just a list to organize everything I watch for the 2022 Watch Challenge (in the order in which I watched it, because why not?).
Small annotations and details, maybe.
My opinion about these works may change over time.
-
1. Sprout
Korean Movie - 2013
Nice short movie about a small child and grief. It was nice.
-
2. Hellbound
Korean Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
Nice concept, but I felt like it got a bit repetitive and it dragged a bit towards the end.
Recommended by my Korean teacher.
-
3. Drama Special Season 9: The Tuna and the Dolphin
Korean Special - 2018, 1 episode
This was on my PTW list for a while. Never got around to it till this year. It was okay.
-
4. New Journey to The West: Season 5
Korean TV Show - 2018, 5 episodes
I love New Journey to the West. Not much to add to that. Really nice show to laugh at and have a fun time with. The "Olympics" were so funny.
-
5. Midnight Runners
Korean Movie - 2017
Nice chemistry between the leads that saved this for me.
The story was okay, it wasn't mindblowing or anything. But it's a nice movie.
-
6. The Penthouse Hidden Room: Unfinished Story
Korean Special - 2021, 1 episode
The commentary/interview between the actors. If you enjoyed the show, you'll most likely enjoy this.
-
7. Wok of Love
Korean Drama - 2018, 38 episodes
It started nice, but it dragged soooo much. I was kinda done with it about halfway and had to fast-forward quite a bit to finish it. Very cliche, not my style.
-
8. The Silent Sea
Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes
I really wanted to love this one because a few of my favourite actors are on it. I did enjoy it a lot, but as someone with a strong science background, some things were just so wrong, scientifically speaking. The ending was a bit "that's not how that works' situation.
But overall, really nice if you like science fiction and don't mind a slow pace.
-
9. The Door into Summer
Japanese Movie - 2021
Really liked the trailer and the concept, not so much the execution.
-
10. Dear Ex
Taiwanese Movie - 2018
Amazing story, amazing casting. I would definitely rewatch this one if it didn't hit me so hard. Maybe in a couple of years.
-
11. Go to New World First
Korean TV Show - 2021, 8 episodes
Nice concept, but I felt like some of the casting got more time than others, and sometimes it felt a bit unfair. Maybe because it focused a bit too much on the "prize" aka the money every one of them was getting.
-
12. New Journey to The West: Season 4
Korean TV Show - 2017, 11 episodes
I love New Journey to the West. Not much to add to that. Really nice show to laugh at and have a fun time with.
-
13. Exes Baggage
Filipino Movie - 2018
It was meh. I could have watched something else instead of this, honestly. I just watched it because of the challenge.
-
14. Lee Soo Geun: The Sense Coach
Korean TV Show - 2021, 1 episode
It was nice, but some jokes would get lost on you if you don't know the people he's mentioning. You really have to know a bit about how his friends are and about what comedians he's close to.
-
15. Hot and Sweet
Korean Drama - 2016, 8 episodes
Short, but still managed to drag. I didn't really enjoyed it. It was about 1 hour, but in my opinion it's not really worth it.
Watched it because of the challenge.
-
16. Kang's Kitchen
Korean TV Show - 2017, 6 episodes
If you like NJTTW, you'll most likely also like this. It's total chaos, but so funny. Love it so much
-
17. Overwinningsschip
Korean Movie - 2021
I liked the concept on the trailer, not so much how everything came together later. It's an okay movie to spend the afternoon on.
-
18. WISH YOU: Your Melody From My Heart the Movie
Korean Movie - 2021
I expected a bit more about this. The characters didn't have much depth, but overall it was okay. Pretty progressive, but still need improvement with the characters.
-
19. Bad and Crazy
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Really enjoyed this, but took a weird turn at some point from what I was expecting. It was a cop show, then another thing, and it made it a bit confusing. Overall still good.
-
20. A Korean Odyssey
Korean Drama - 2017, 20 episodes
I don't know what I expected from this, but I didn't get it. It was an okay ride. I really enjoyed some parts, hated some others. It didn't change my life. (I had previously tried to watch it and stopped at the 1st episode, so I guess this time it was better)
I guess because it's a reinterpretation of the novel Journey to the West I expected something different. It's okay.
-
21. Utsukushii Kare
Japanese Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
If I had watched this on a good day, then it would probably have a better rating. I didn't like the main character dynamic that much. The development of the characters was nice, tho.
I would still recommend it if you're a fan of BL.
-
22. The Journalist
Japanese Drama - 2022, 6 episodes
The premise was nice, but it dragged in some parts. I like its take on corruption and how the government tried to cover it up. It also dealt with Covid a bit towards the end.
If you like the genre aka politics, then yes. Otherwise, not that worth it.
-
23. The Witness
Korean Movie - 2018
Honestly, I just watched this because Lee Sung-min was on it. I wanted to like it, so I didn't really go into it with high expectations.
Really nice concept: would you help someone if other people are present? The confrontation between the killer and the main character was interesting at the beginning, but when they really get to confront each it was just... okay. The ending is really nice, it was just perfect.
Overall, a nice watch.
-
24. Love and Leashes
Korean Movie - 2022
I first saw the trailer and got a bit curious a bit, because we all know SK it's not that progressive with this type of topic.
I think it's a nice movie, considering where it was released. It explains pretty well the concepts and does a good job at not stigmatising the topic or the different people involved. It talks about it quite naturally, which is nice. But don't expect full-on nudity on this. Everything is very subbtle.
It's a nice watch. Definitely not for everybody.
-
25. Coffee Prince
Korean Drama - 2007, 17 episodes
An old classic that I hadn't watched yet. At the beginning, I was not very convinced, but as I kept watching, I started to love it more. It has aged okay, at least most of it.
Really enjoyed the cast and the story (mainly from the second half till the end). Nice watch, but it may be a bit long (16+ episodes) and not for everybody since it's a kinda old drama now.
-
26. Our Beloved Summer
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
I had very mixed feelings while watching this. My relationship with romance dramas has always been a bit weird. I find it very hard to just enjoy something, I either love it or hate it most of the time.
Overall, I enjoyed this show, but there were moments I just didn't vibe with. There were episodes where I felt like nothing happened and then other ones where everything happened really fast.
The OST is amazing, tho. No complaints there.
-
27. On Your Wedding Day
Korean Movie - 2018
I was not in the mood for fluff the day I watched this, or for cliche stories in general. I fast-forwarded so many scenes. The ending was just okay in my opinion.
Okay option for killing some time, and if you like fluff.
-
28. His - Koi Suru Tsumori Nante Nakatta
Japanese Drama - 2019, 5 episodes
I'm very picky when it comes to romance, where I include BLs. It's just a basic BL. It has some nice scenes, but there's not much going on.
If you like BL, you'll most likely like it. It's probably an okay introduction to BLs.
-
29. Nightmare Teacher
Korean Drama - 2016, 12 episodes
This was weirder than I expected. I don't think I fully understood what was going on at the end of it.
It's a quick watch, and you may enjoy it if you like Horror. But it's weird.
-
30. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
It was a nice watch. Just a show to pass some time, don't expect an amazing plot from this. Pretty predictable at times, but if you can move past that, it's an okay drama.
-
31. My Annoying Brother
Korean Movie - 2016
I loved this movie. I went into it knowing basically nothing and it was very enjoyable. I mean, it's a pretty sad movie. It's one of those movies when you know you'll probably cry, but still watch it.
Really enjoyed the dynamic between the two brothers. I enjoyed the OST, too. I would recommend it.
-
32. Juvenile Justice
Korean Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
I went in expecting a lot, and I guess that's why I found it a bit disappointing at the end. Also, some "messages" the drama tries to send are just awful. Or maybe I didn't understand it right, idk.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with both the FL and the ML. He's clearly trying his best with the kids but sometimes makes VERY STUPID choices. And she sometimes is just trying to punish the kids because of what happened to her, that was a bit weird.
But if you like justice/law dramas, it's a nice show. Pretty raw at times, so be prepared for that.
Recommended by my Korean teacher.
-
33. Shanai Marijjihani
Japanese Drama - 2020, 7 episodes
Fake marriage and fake dating, when nicely done, are amazing. This was just okay for me. Very cliche, which is not really my thing.
-
34. Love Is Blind: Japan
Japanese TV Show - 2022, 11 episodes
I liked this version better than the American one. Still has a lot of issues and the reason some of the people involved got married are just so selfish. It was an okay watch, to kill some time.
-
35. Doctor Brain
Korean Drama - 2021, 6 episodes
Really nice concept, with a very weird execution. I really wanted to like this one, but I got very very stuck on episode 3 and took me a while to get out of there. It went down a hill from there for me.
The cat part and the "powers", just no.
-
36. New Year's Eve
Korean Movie - 2021
I don't know why I watched this, or why I didn't drop it within the first 20 minutes, because I don't think I enjoyed a single thing in this movie (except the development of the relationship between the older sister and the foreign girlfriend, everything else is a big no for me).
Too cliche. Too predictable. Just meh.
-
37. Last One Standing
Japanese TV Show - 2022, 8 episodes
Liked the concept and the idea of a "drama" with improvised bits. Some jokes were just not okay (because of the inappropriate topic, in my opinion). Towards the end, it seemed like everybody just run out of ideas, which I guess can happen.
I would still recommend it if you like Japanese comedy shows. Otherwise, the humour is a bit weird.
-
38. Love O2O
Chinese Drama - 2016, 30 episodes
Ah, Cdramas and I. I either love them in the first 2 episodes or it takes me forever to watch one until I inevitably drop it. Also, romance dramas, which are, apparently, not my thing lately. So this had two things that were a pretty big no for me.
I started this 3 times. Never got past the 2nd episode. When I started for the fourth time, it took me a bit to get past the first 3-4 episodes, but after that, I just couldn't stop. It wasn't amazing, but I guess I got hooked up with something and that kept me going.
I think this is the 2nd Yang Yang drama I watch that's about videogames lol The romance part was okay.
Overall nice, but sometimes it dragged quite a bit because it's a lot of episodes and I guess they needed to fill all the time.
-
39. His - What Is Love
Japanese Movie - 2020
I enjoyed the movie more than the drama, maybe because they were adults and had a bit more backstory going on. The message of the movie was really nice, and so was the cinematography.
-
40. Fall in Love at First Kiss
Taiwanese Movie - 2019
I'm clearly not the target audience for this movie. It was meh at best. Probably would have loved it a few years ago.
-
41. The Fiery Priest
Korean Drama - 2019, 40 episodes
The Fiery Priest was a wild ride and I was not totally prepared for this one. I someone would tell me that I would love a drama about a priest this much, I would have not believed them, mainly because of my very complicated relationship with religion.
I loved almost every single character, I loved almost everything. I feel like there should be a season 2, which I hope they would make soon. I would definitely rewatch it, maybe next year, because I enjoyed it so much.
Really recommended, one of the best things I've seen this year.
-
42. It's Okay, That's Love
Korean Drama - 2014, 16 episodes
It's been a while since I enjoyed a romance-focus drama this much. Also, I feel like they treated the mental illness of all the characters pretty nicely, without too many cliches or making them seem "crazy". The characters were presented just as human with their issues, and how they tried to solve them. Sometimes with the right approach, others... not so much.
Really recommend this drama. It's a bit strong, because of the topic, but totally worth it.
-
43. Untitled
Korean TV Show - 2021, 11 episodes
Really nice, calm show about two people running a store/bar for 10 days in a small town in Gangwong Province. The first days are pretty rough and they made a lot of mistakes, but it's very enjoyable. Very relatable.
Can't recommend this enough. Time just flies watching this.
-
44. The Box
Korean Movie - 2021
I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie but overall was a nice watch. It deals with some heavy topics (trauma and violence, and stuff like that) so it may not be for everyone, and the acting is not the best, but it's nice watch if you just want a musical movie.
Most of the songs are nice. A couple of songs are not that good, in my opinion, but that's just personal preference.
-
45. The Last Empress
Korean Drama - 2018, 52 episodes
I really wanted to see this because of the ML, because I know him from the musical scene and I was curious about him. But this, oh boy, was a ride I was not expecting. It stopped making sense pretty early, but I kept watching just to see where it would go. I know this is a makjang and it´s supposed to be like that, but still. How can there be a lot of things going on and at the same time feel like everything is taking forever to happen?
The ending was pretty obvious and it did not surprise me at all, so I was a bit disappointed by that. Still an okay makjang.
-
46. The Game: Towards Zero
Korean Drama - 2020, 32 episodes
The villain carries the whole drama on his back. If it wasn't for him, I probably would have dropped this pretty fast. Also, one of my fav actors is a secondary character here, so maybe that helped a bit, too. But I really didn't like the two mains. They have no chemistry whatsoever. There's way more chemistry between the ML and the villain.
Also, why does nobody question the guy with "powers" at the beginning? This "oh, you can see how people die? Help us with these things" narrative, I don't buy. There are like two people that kind of question him, but not too much.
-
47. Cutie Pie
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
Proper communication would have solved almost every single problem that has happened so far. I truly do not understand how these "couples" have lasted this long, especially the main. Every character in this drama is a different walking red flag, which is amazing lol
Because it is a BL I feel like it's overly hyped and over-sexualised, when in reality if these things happened to someone, it would be awful. All the ghosting, the manipulation and the constant control over someone else's life... That's not how a relationship should be and this is the perfect example of it.
Yes, the actors are cute and hot, it's a drama and not real, and whatever. But that doesn't help with all the other awful things. I can understand why people like it. Still very over-sexualised with scenes that add zero to the story and are there just to show their bodies and that's it.
The message from the last episode was nice, every person should be able to marry who they love, and we definitely need more queer dramas or media in general. But still, I don't think the main relationship has healthy.
-
48. Short
Korean Drama - 2018, 4 episodes
There's not much time to develop any plot in this. The first episode felt really long for some reason, the 2nd was okay, and I enjoyed way more the last two. But still, there's not that much going on and I feel like there's a lot that just barely explained because, again, time. It's just four hours, and you can't do much in that time with all the subplots going on.
It's still an okay sports drama.
-
49. Haar Privéleven
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
I wanted a romcom because I don't usually watch that many since lately I've been more into dramas with less romance. At the beginning it was a bit cringy, because of the fangirl subplot, but after episode 3 or 4, I got really into it.
-
50. A Business Proposal
Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
Very cliché, but better done than most dramas. I enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to, so that was a nice surprise. I knew what I was getting into, which could have helped keep my expectations in check.
If you like this type of "office drama" boss/employee relationships, then this is perfect for you.
-
51. I Won't Hurt You
Korean TV Show - 2021, 11 episodes
I dropped this at the end when I only had about 3 episodes left because I lost interest in it. I finished this year, and it was enjoyable. I just watched too much Penthouse last year and I was a bit over it by the time I got to the last episodes.
It's a nice show if you've enjoyed Penthouse, as much as that drama can be enjoyed, which is not much lol
-
52. Falling for Innocence
Korean Drama - 2015, 16 episodes
I started watching this drama because of Kyungho, but I honestly don't know why I didn't drop this halfway into it. Very predictable and I didn't really like any of the characters. I couldn't care less for the ML, or any of the characters really.
-
53. Unexpected Business Season 2
Korean TV Show - 2022, 13 episodes
I liked more the vibe of the 1st season, with the smaller shop/bar. This season is more chaotic and less healing than the first one because of the amount of work.
The guests are nice, but I feel like everything they do is work, work, work.
-
54. The Future Diary 2
Japanese TV Show - 2022, 9 episodes
The love triangle was interesting for like the first episode. Later, I liked more the bromance between the boys than everything else.
-
55. Kobold
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
No.
-
56. The K2
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
... I don't know why I watched this whole drama....
-
57. Bulgasal: Immortal Souls
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
I went into this drama with zero expectations, because I knew the reason why I was watching this was not the plot
*cough* Choi Jae-woong *cough*but so far it's enjoyable. It's not the best plot ever, but it's a nice drama. -
58. Doctor Lawyer
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
I complained a lot about this on twitter while I was watching it. Another drama that I watched because a couple of actors I like are on it. Just okay.
Interesting at first, but ended up being just okay.
-
59. You Are My Glory
Chinese Drama - 2021, 32 episodes
Chinese dramas are very hit or miss with me. It took me a couple of times to finally get past the first episode, and then it was a marathon. It's easy enough to watch, but I feel like I watched two different dramas in the first and second half.
-
60. The Untamed
Chinese Drama - 2019, 50 episodes
My first wuxia and it was amazing! Again, as with any Chinese drama, it takes me a bit to warm up to them, but once I got past the first couple of episodes (which were an info dump, pretty much), I was hooked up. I can totally understand why people love this genre, but imo I can only do this long of a drama maybe a couple of times a year because it's a lot.
-
61. Money Heist
Korean Drama - 2022, 6 episodes
I've never watched the original and I had very low expectations. It's just okay imo.
-
62. Extreme Job
Korean Movie - 2019
Funny movie. Quite nice for a movie night.
-
63. Inside Men: The Original
Korean Movie - 2015
Good movie, good actors. A bit too long, maybe.
-
64. Kieta Hatsukoi
Japanese Drama - 2021, 10 episodes
Nice BL. There are better ones out there, but this one was quite nice. Recommended.
-
65. Argon
Korean Drama - 2017, 8 episodes
Really nice drama about a reporter and the censorship in media. Totally recommended.
-
66. Seoul Grand Operation
Korean Movie - 2022
It's a nice movie. Don't expect an amazing plot, but it's nice.
-
67. Honey Lemon Soda
Japanese Movie - 2021
Another movie that's clearly not for me.
-
68. Why Your Crush Doesn't Have A Crush On You?
Filipino Movie - 2013
Yet another movie that's clearly not for me.
-
69. Love Stage
Thai Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
Another BL. It was okay. There were a few things that scream red flag for me and made me a bit uncomfortable. (I don't expect characters in dramas to be perfect and have healthy relationships, cause nobody is perfect, but I think BLs tend to romanticize a lot of relationship dynamics that are very toxic)
-
70. Run On
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
Love it! Very healthy relationship with the main leaders, which is not that common. It was amazing. I hadn't enjoyed a drama with so much romance this much in a long time.
-
71. Secretly Greatly
Korean Movie - 2013
Very good movie. The ending is very sad and it hurt a bit, but I really enjoyed watching it. Recommended.
-
72. The Dude In Me
Korean Movie - 2019
I have to admit that I had to start this movie twice because the first time I was not really feeling it. But the second time was great. Liked the story, the characters. It's a nice movie.
-
73. Animal World
Chinese Movie - 2018
This was a very weird movie, but weirdly enough, I liked it a lot. Went in with zero expectations and it was amazing. The fact that Michael Douglas keep randomly appearing throughout the movie was just perfect. It's a bit violent, but recommended.
-
74. Initial D
Hong Kong Movie - 2005
I thought I would like this movie because a liked other movies about races and cars, but it was just okay.
-
75. Miracle
Korean Movie - 2021
The ending felt a bit rushed imo, and the romance subplot is better on the first part than on the second one. I feel like the plot in general could have been better executed, but it's an okay movie.
-
76. Poetry Story
Korean Drama - 2017, 10 episodes
Very easy to watch since the episodes are about 5 min long each, but because of the duration, there is only so much the plot can develop. Still, a nice story if you have about 1 hour.
-
77. Ace Attorney
Japanese Movie - 2012
Definitely for fans of the videogames. If you're not a fan, then it's just an okay-ish movie.
-
78. A Muse
Korean Movie - 2012
Some reviews/comments made it sound like it was going to be an awful movie, but it was a bit uncomfortable at best. It's a complex topic definitely, there are a couple of sex scenes (a few of them don't even actually happen), so it's not for everyone. Not a movie I would recommend, but I think it's okay-ish, maybe? I won't watch it ever again.
The age of the girl is a bit vague in purpose I guess, but she's clearly underage. I understand why they casted a "younger" actor to play the old man, it makes it a bit less creepy, maybe? I still don't really know how I feel about it.
-
79. Not Me
Thai Drama - 2021, 14 episodes
-
80. Life
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
This is another drama by my favourite writer, so this is another one I cannot recommend enough!
This was a rewatch.
-
81. Zero
Korean Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
I had somewhat high expectations for this one because the writer is the writer of one of my fav dramas ever, so yeah, I expected a high-quality drama here, regarding scriptwriting at least (so plot, characters, etc). So far, the only thing I have is questions about where this is going and what the heck is going on.
-
82. Wol Soo Geum Hwa Mok To
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
Pretty nice drama, considering I don't usually like romance dramas that much. A bit cliche at times, but overall pretty nice.
-
83. My Pistachio
Korean Movie - 2018
Short movie, less than half an hour. The acting is good enough and the ending is a nice one.
-
84. Stranger
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
This is my favourite drama ever, so I cannot recommend it enough. Please, watch it!
-
85. Gudetama: An Eggcellent Adventure
Japanese Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
-
86. My Mister
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
-
87. Go Go 70s
Korean Movie - 2008
-
88. The Peach Tree
Korean Movie - 2012
-
89. Marathon
Korean Movie - 2005
-
90. Broker
Korean Movie - 2022
