Not sure about the love at fist stream but a whole bunch of Vs
This is the story of the self censured vlogger V and all her victims...Ok mayben not victims but the people she stomped all over on her way to achieving her goals.., While I do want to be on her side I find myself thinking why do they have to paint vloggers so negative?Thank The IdeaFirst Company for giving us Pearl Next Door https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paloSIbSQR0 Otherwise I would have thought that the whole industry is against vloggers. Any way this girl in this movie petty much stomps all over everyone around her..
We also get to meet the guy who keeps getting crushed by her, Over and over again... I truly do wonder if the guy is a masochist or just plain shallow as he is blinded by Vs beauty but one thing is certain though there does not seem to be anything wrong with him being decently looking, crafty and smart. With a really nice family.
The ext person we get to see, is the lovable introverted catgairl (who never owned a cat) who does everything to support her adoptive sister/cousin even if it means going against herself. Who has a close relationship with an account of a person who's identity is unknown as well as fun Hate/love rivalry cliche type relationship with a very good looking rich boy from her class.
Mr good looking rich boy is drawn in to the world of V... in a fake relationship vlogging match to become no one... in an odd attempt to get close to cat girl... Lovable in every single way if he weren't a complete lier who enjoyed teasing cat girl... if you ignore that he is indeed perfect boyfriend material.
The movie has a nice selection of family representation, lesbian mothers, a single mother, a family with a mother, a father and a bunch of kids too.. We get to see siblings, adoptees, found family, neighbours and cyber people all in one movie. And the relationships between all these peaole who all but one are lovable most of the time ... to bad that one is the main lead.
The romance is ok, I would have wanted to see a lot more of the cat girl and her bully instead of V... The chemistry is decent not amazing but not bad either. And if you are looking for steamy kisses you may want to look away as I think the most you will get is a sensual hug or kiss on the cheek.
Definitely an ok watch for those who like these types of cliches but this does not bring a single new thing to the table and is in no way what so ever a masterpiece.
Heart fluttering music making, waisted potential and characters you may want to shove of a roof
This is a show that has you wondering how many set backs are too many? How many times can a girl crash down before she gives up her dreams? When is the right time to let go? how self centred can a girl get before her friends kick her out? and how much wrong can men do and still get away with it?To be honest I would have dropped this after the first episode if someone (Kate here on MDL) had not told me that the first two episodes are really bad but once you pass them it gets really interesting, and that is true once you pass the first two episodes this drama does indeed get very interesting.
Basically it is a show about what happens when you take a bunch of broken girls who used to have a dream, and try to crush that dream over and over again? Well they go all self destructive and more or less give up, feel a lot of regret and wish they would have spent their youth doing something better... some also shift blame.
But then there is Jenna who adapts, saves her friends, gets pushed down, saves them again and ultimately crashes at rock bottom where she would probably have remained if someone had not given her a slither of hope and taken it away pushing her over that limit beyond rock bottom and over to crazy side. Jenna is this super human who lets us see both her weaknesses as well as her fight power and boy does this girl have some fighting power... What I love about her is her way of learning from her mistakes, and seeing beyond here and now... Looking back at the past she can see what went wrong and instead of getting blinded by anger, hate or shifting blame she actually does this really rare thing and takes responsibility as well as finding solution to not only her own but also her friends problems.... Giving us countless scenes of power, friendship, fighting spirit and tears.. and when I say tear I mean a lot of tears.. so many tears that I had to turn of the sound for this drama as Jenna cries relatively quietly her friends cry louder...
There is a lot of good to say about this drama, the story does seem to show a lot of realistic problems that face people in the ido l/music industry and young women in society, as well as shows a lot of heart-fluttering music making, work relationships some that could easily outshine a lot of romances.
However none of these problems and relationships are explored or offered realistic solutions, to be clear they do offer some kind of solutions to most of the problems, but they do not match the rest of the real slice of life, slice of darkness feel to the drama...
The acting and chemistry between the different characters is inconsistent while some are great others are just not convincing at all. The twists may not always be super predictable from the first episodes but never ever come as surprise (at least not for me), The main thing to make drag down the score from a 9 or 10 is the youngest member of the group called Oh Hyun Ji her character is so annoying, inconsistent and loud that I again had to shut of the sound... the girl does have some lovable moments but overall I wish they would have given all her screen time to others, literally anybody else would do, preferably the CEO, manly Idol and Jenna but a cat, a sign, a singing hot dog would do.
There is a lot of underdeveloped potential in this story, its like they give us teasers without fully delivering and though there are a bunch of heart fluttering moments, and a clear ending yet I find myself left unsatisfied with a lot... That Said I did enjoy the drama, and do recommend it , had it not been for those annoying characters, and just a little bit too many unnecessary turns of events... it could easily have been a 9 or a 10. So I guess this drama recommendation/review comes with a warning:
Do not get your hopes up, be were of the annoying elements and do not be afraid to mute the screen.
But if you do like dramas about idols, music and fighting spirit this is a good place to find it,
So many types of girlfriends... boyfriends too for that matter
So many girlfriends in one drama: evil girlfriends, we he exes, new, contract... you name it this show has it! giving us almost as many types of girlfriends as it gives us cliches in this is a highly entertaining, highly bingable drama. Yep this is a drama who's most impressive trait seems to be how many cliches they can fit in to each episode. The sound was horrible, the subtitles where just awful and there is so much crying I had to switch off the sound now and then. There are also a whole bunch of flashbacks, montages, slow mo stuff that you can probably up the speed without really noticing you upped the speed. However being a cliche lover I can not help but give this an 7,5 bordering on as it has all of my favourite cliches and not a single episode is left without them...
The Male lead is the typical icicle, cruel meanie,, the female lead is hard working to the point of it being ridiculous, kind, poor and caring for all like most female leads not very smart but not either dumb to the point of annoyance.
The. friendships here are great, so is one of the mothers but do not expect to see any fathers as they seem to be all dead.
So if you love cliches and can overlook the sound and subs this is definitely a decent place to look for them, if you do not love cliches move a long...
Who is I? Or is it more Why am I?
This drama is pretty cut to the chase, it starts off strong and keeps going with highly questionable morals, some interesting twists (some more predictable than otters) and a whole lot of death... literally more or less everybody dies and I found myself wondering more who will die next rather then who was it that died. The drama shows some pretty interesting ways to mourn and being there for each other... Healing by f**** (not on screen) seems to be the most common path chosen in this drama: oooh your best friend just died let me help you with that...
But do not worry there is not only F** they all seem to lie, scheme, and put "mean girls" to shame in this "crew" that reminded me of the 1990s movie Clueless gone bad... really bad.
Highly entertaining and did supra me once or twice, but it would have been entertaining even if I would have guessed all the twist.
Bingabilaty: high
Entertainment: high
Acting: some good some bad
Annoying side characters: not in my opinion
Definitely a good suspenseful drama
Not very entertaining but relatable and lovable
This drama is kind of grey... not very happy, not very entertaining there is not really much suspense, drama or heart fluttering moments... The cinematography is kind of boring,..BUT
This drama probably has some of dreamlands most relatable characters, characters that feel like humans with a friendship some would kill to get...These characters are mostly lovable and have some pretty great lines showing the life and struggles of some what most people would call mediocre some even say looses... This group does however do a pretty good jobb redefining success without involving cliches and overly positive messages...
Though I will admit some of the gestures where to big and I did find myself slightly bored at times I loved them all and just wanted to join them for a beer and ramen...
Interesting story but inconsistent acting and dialog
The story here is captivating, it is interesting and sure to keep you both on your toes as well as wanting to watch more...However some parts, especially parts where people act a younger version of themselves the acting is just cringe, annoying and at times really, really bad! Is it due to bad directing, bad writing of just lack of range in the actors I do not know but it was at times so bad I felt bad for the actors... Such a shame because I do know these actors actually do have talent...
The amount of annoying characters is kept to a minimum (except as younger versions) and even though it is a bit of a one case an episode kind of deal there is still a common thread and interesting plot both as a whole and in the details, no detail is insignificant and it is sown together both beautifully and slightly disappointing in the end..
But again the story, the twists and the issues that the drama doues tackle still makes it worth watching, I just can not score it higher.
Short and kind of funny
7 kisses or 7 almost kisses... 7 short parodies of fun and popular drama cliches to get us to shop at a duty free what is not to love?Well for one some of the styling here was just so bad... Sorry but the styling got in the way of some of the guys charm, not Lee Jong Suk even an ugly suit wont ruin his cuteness but Lee Joon Gi s suit, hairstyle and character did not suit him at all even if his episode was probably the most fun. Ji Chang Wook was styled like healer but forgot his acting skills somewhere else but other than that it was pleasant to watch.
The Borne Identity (North) Korean style, in other words completely different...
This movie has been on my radar for a long time, and it is good it douse have a few iffy elements that I felt un sure of making me wonder was I supposed to laugh at this and is it okay to laugh? But overall it is rally good dealing with so many interesting issues in less than two hours without getting messy, is actually pretty impressive. The acting here was really well executed, having many of the characters portray a wide range of emotions and characters switching in between... Showing great range and is what makes this movie interesting and most definitely worth watching. It is also interesting how they use color and weather to go between comedy, action thriller modes during the movie. an element I truly appreciate.
I may write more later, I may not, but bow I finally get the whole green suite so, if only for that I recommend this.
P.S they also made great use of an umbrella, and those who know me here know what that means,... and about the ending Ill put it in a comment tagged spoiler.
If only it was not for the story-line being boring this would have been amazing.
This drama has a lot of good, allot of meeh, some bad and some plain boring.... to be honest I understand those who rated this very low but if I look at the details there are quite a few things I liked about this that bring up the score. The Male lead, he definitely lacks communication skills, flexibility and honesty but he is is fun to watch and all this lack is kind of cute (to watch not live with). This guy does of course also need a lesson or two in respecting others privacy as well... He has a heart condition, this is part of the plot but not his whole story he is a genius, he is ambitious and has the most amazing healing skills leaving his chest scar less even just a short while after open heart surgery, i So extremely impressive! All in all I enjoyed watching this guy.
The female lead... what do I say about this woman hmmm.... She is a bit childish at times but I did like her awkwardness and her character most of the time. However she does have quite a few moments that just felt childish odd and out of character that did lower the score for this drama. I loved how her character made way for important subjects such as stalking, violence against women and the problematic side to public confessions and lies. However she was a bit too forgiving in my opinion. But hey at least she called it out once before praising the behavior she just called out...
The second couple (roommates) was 90% lovable and fun 10% WTF? and come on this is just annoying... The science couple was probably 100% adorable but also not very interesting.
I also liked how this was a drama where I was more annoyed with how the kids treated their parents than the parents themselves, even if It just made (mostly) the female lead seem immature and fickle. " oh I have hated you for 20 years but one look and I forget everything kind of deal to it...
Another + is that this drama shows the importance of medical research (including animal testing), I love animals and am not a fan of animal testing for other reasons but when it comes to medical stuff I would be a hypocrite if I said I was against it considering I would be long dead without it. It is not done very realistically (I assume, but still).
The drama has allot of lovely lines and gives good appreciation to umbrellas as an important part of a relationship. So far this sounds like a high scorer right?Well it would definitely have gotten a better score if it just had a better plot-line, with interesting twists. These where not that interesting even for me who am team cliche, there was a mess, I love messes in plots but by the end I honestly did not really care how it would be solved and considered dropping it. And while the drama does give umbrellas the recognition they deserve the pets are just there to look fluffy, completely ignoring their individual personality.
All in all not a good watch but it has so much good in it that I could not lower the score...
Sweet mess, allot of good but some parts where just bad
This was, different mostly in a good way, I actually liked the mess, the not so very predictable plot and the actors. However this was not the actors best acting, I do not know if they where badly prepared, rushed or if it was bad directing but some parts just felt forced.I love the second couple, I love the friendships, I love the smiles, the way these women most of the time go for what they want... I hated how spinless the main lead was and while I loved how they portrayed fear and insecurity in entering a relationship this became a problem when spineless met fearful . I often wanted to yell talk to EACH OTHER for f sake and I hated how the Second female lead is portrayed, from start to finish I hate here character as well as the not so endearing qualities she brought out in the lead couple. But to be honest the funniest part is how obvious the product placement is I laughed o many times at the product placement I almost got a tummy ache.
All in, it does have allot of good stuff but is dragged down by the acting and that one plot twist that just killed the characters I guess... (not literally but their likability)
Easy to watch sweetness overload
This drama is a perfect dose of sugar in a pretty messed up world, it is very easy to binge with very little conflict and more cuteness. Portraying day to day life and flirting during lockdown, showing both some measurements that would seem completely absurd less than two years ago (for me they still seem a bit to much, and odd), but are a clear sign of life in most parts of the world 2020. The drama portrays loneliness, flirting, insecurity and how the effects of covid go beyond the illness itself and over to spreading fear and the mental strain it can have on otherwise healthy people. The drama also shows quite a bit of humor showing covid-guards just casually taking of their shirts and working shirtless as if that was the most natural thing to do. The guards where lovable for more than their abs, and so are the rest of the side characters. Not a single one is annoying or overbearing.
I was also very impressed over the way the main leads smiled with their eyes, one may think it is hard to see emotions thru the mask but those eyes and body language did one h*** of a job making up for the lack of mouths seen.
All in all this drama was highly entertaining and very refreshing, and definitely worth the little time it has...
Fun, fluffy but does not really make any sense
This drama is easy to binge, easy to watch and has all the cliches one will expect with e an icicle rich male lead who just happens to have a spare room in his apartment... and a poor female lead but with some added twin-twists.The male lead does have great character development but is in desperate need of a lesson or three about power abuse, boundaries and trust. Being extremely controlling and jealous, fun to watch but not really relationship material, even if he is rich, handsome and smart everything about him screams stay away.
The female lead may be poor but she actually has a pretty well functioning brain, yes she does make a mistake or 3 but overall she is pretty cool, talented, fun and has pretty high self esteem most of the time which is pretty unusual in a c-drama and is the reason the dram agot some extra stars.
Some parts of the story in the dram make 0 sense but hey it is fiction so just don't expect to much realism and all will be good.
I also think half of the budget for this drama went to flowers, balloons and fireworks... people it is okay to show love with action you do not have to confess with flowers every other day... The friendships in this drama are lovely and not a single character is overly annoying. All in all a pretty decent fluff piece.
Cute and innocent
This is another covid-safe online drama. outgoing smiley jock meets introverted perfectionist nerd. The story is sweet, pretty innocent and surrounded by insecurity and fear, but not to much fear... The show shows both great friendship, loneliness and how to cope with lock down , commonly seen in these types of dramas. The drama also makes great use of the main characters friends for both the story and to set the fussy, sweet, playful mood of the drama. There is also a good bring out the best of each other/ you complete me feel to it and the teacher in this drama is one of the good ones finally showing that not all teachers are evil. Bonus is the nice twist in the end. All in all a sweet and innocent watch, not to dramatic and definitely the type to make you smile.Sad but beutiful
This drama is really emotional, conveying both sorrow and healing in the most beautiful way where the details count more than the dialog. While many LGBTQ+ dramas often focus on romance it was kind of refreshing yet sad to see a drama that incorporated more sides to being gay portraying both hardship, discrimination, love, regret but most of all family bonds (not necessarily biological). This drama uses childrens openness and curiosity in the most natural way as well as added some small humoristic sides to the otherwise pretty heavy story. The drama may not have huge entertainment or suspense but it is touching in a non cringey kind of way, making you feel warm as well as being very subtle in showing the characters personality and growth that will make you fall in love with this family over and over again. The drama also makes way for some pretty good come back lines and is most certainly worth a watch for any one anywhere, just have the tissues ready if you are the emotional type.
A little bit of everything in 4 short hours
This very short drama was kind of an emotional ride, the quality is not very good but in 4 short episodes we are invited to join in on a painful journey of regret, guilt, more guilt, competitiveness, sorrow, more guild, more regret and allot of running. That even mad me shed a tear or two. The drama has a pretty realistic feel to it. It deals pretty well with issues such as inequality, entitlement, loss and friendship. In a way that differs from the whole little guy against the system we are used to seeing. This story is actually about a boy, who was given way to much responsibility for his older sibling. The way their relationship is portrayed in the beginning did bother me abit but at the same time, I guess it made it more real showing how children who are given responsibility to care for siblings may react, and the importance of making everybody feel valuable. this portrayal made way for the rest of the drama, and was the foundation for the scene that built up a tear in my eye.
It was allot of fun to see two top actors in the beginning of there career while Yoo Yeon Seok acting skills have developed quite a bit Park Min Young's acting was already great, she delivers a great performance showing a range of emotions along side her bright caring ray of sunshine between some honestly depressing scenes. Baek Sung Hyun did a pretty good job with his character as well.
I can say that though Park Min Young had relatively little screen time, her character and scenes where the best parts of this drama and had the best lines, opening up, and calling out people for their behaviour and starting points:
" How can someone like you understand... even when you where a kid you never understood what it felt like to loose"
All in all not a masterpiece but definitely worth those four hours if you can put up with the low quality production, there is also some pretty scenery.
