With awful writing comes a disappointing route.
The anticipation of True Beauty made the show worthy of the hype it received in the first couple of episodes. Episode 1 & 2 settled a cheerful school vibe. But moving forward, you see the show focuses more on unnecessary elements that are not important to what message it's trying to portray. The love triangle became a higher priority than the development of its characters. The show used some important characters and damaged them for the benefit of the main couple. This show was supposed to be about an insecure teenager struggling with her beauty. It would've been nice to see more concerning her anxiety and trauma but instead, there were only a few parts of development and the show never tried to flesh it out more. She is a very flat character and it is hard to build a connection with her since the main focus of the show was a relationship. True Beauty had so much potential on being amazing. It is not a bad show, the comedy is what saves it. The show also brings up some cases of mental health. Being in a high school setting, it would've been nice to see more elaboration with that concept since it affects the characters. But the drama never showed the process of healing, rather help was never mentioned. The show gets realistic at times which is why it's best to watch True Beauty with an open mind. Don't come to this drama as a critic. There are many problems with this series that the writers never tried to solve. I believe the writers played the safe way with this series but the problem with that is making a show about a serious insecurity but not making the whole show revolve around it. Acne is a very sensitive facial feature that many are not fond of. This is why the series could've been so impactful in making people feel more proud of their true beauty. Instead, I'm leaving this drama feeling nothing at all.In terms of characters. The majority of them I liked, but too much time was wasted on characters that aren't essential to the narrative. True Beauty has too much filler. They bring on an interesting side character and toy around with it to benefit the leads. It follows a simple formula: character good, we like character, now we're going to make character suffer to make the leads' relationship stronger! Ah forgot to redeem them...uh... here they showed up for 5 seconds anyways here's the leads' relationship again~ I find it ironic how the drama made me dislike characters I loved in the webtoon and like characters I hated in the webtoon. All I can blame it on is bad writing.
The only lessons I learned from this show is that friendships mean nothing if the person doesn't see you as a priority, and pinning on someone is a waste of time. True Beauty could've been the most magical high school drama to ever live but sadly it remains a lighthearted show that avoids proper development and a compelling end for everyone.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K

Kento Yamazaki's acting was phenomenal. I couldn't ask any other actor to play Saiki. I felt like I was looking at the exact Saiki from the anime. His blank expressions and random commentary were perfect. It was hard to believe I was watching Kento act such a bizarre character. Especially since he's been in a lot of romcoms. He played the part very well and I applaud him. For the other cast, they all portrayed the goofy characters soo well, especially Arai Hirofumi. Arai portrayed Nendo's stupidity perfectly. Once again I felt like I was watching the anime. All the cast members did a splendid job of truly becoming their character. I'm so proud of them and excited to watch again.
Overall, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K was amazing. I wish they can make another movie(or a drama, that would be amazing). If you just watched the movie only, I suggest you find the anime or the manga (they're both amazing). You'll fall in love and laugh till your heart's content. This is one movie you have to see if you want to laugh a lot.

Now thats how you do a romcom!
Walking into this show was like taking a breath of fresh air and feeling that nice sensation in your body knowing you're in for a treat. From the start, the comedy always found a perfect beat and rarely got congested or cringe. They perfectly blended romance and comedy and made sure to balance them out. This show is so wholesome and feels genuine. The creators and actors made this feel like a love letter to BL. Giving us an inside look on the production and daily lives of these actors playing as actors made it feel like we're also apart of it, just watching behind the scenes. They put a lot of care into this and its very evident in how well they developed this series. It's a shame that it was so short, but they have potential in continuing this story. Though, this ending was satisfying enough. Overall, good pacing, and great acting. Very fun and uplifting. Definitely give this a watch, as for I will be returning to this drama often!Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Now for the plot. This plot was very different. Something out of the ordinary. What caught most of us was how the lead Dan oh realized she's in a comic. Of course, we all expected her to be the main but twist was that her role is only there to help the main leads get together. We don't often get to see from the perspective of supporting characters. Through her perspective, we got to see more lively parts of a student's life and the harsh reality of knowing that your life could end at any minute. The lead Dan oh really sold this show with her phenomenal acting. Seeing the drastic contrast with her scenes in the stage and shadow is so intriguing to watch. Things got more interesting when more characters started becoming self-aware. It was at this point the show started to lost its charm but it still kept going strong and gave the viewers many memorable scenes. The second lead syndrome is strong in this one. Sometimes it was hard to decide who should get the girl. Both male leads are so brilliant and in some type of way, they both got the girl in the end. But did they really? In the stage yes, but in the shadow, no. The actors really made this show fun to watch. It was a real rollercoaster. The great thing about this drama is when they do the unexpected. This ending was part expected part unexpected. It depends on how you look at it.
The costuming is brilliant. They don't keep basic uniform attire, they modify it to match each character's personality. The cinematography is very great. The soundtrack is gorgeous. It has that school drama type sound to it. More upbeat and livid. The acting: phenomenal. I'm glad there was a bunch of rookie actors/actresses' that took part in this. It shows you that you don't need a big famous celeb to make your show special. Overall, this show is a 8.5 for me. This show deserved another season but you know Korea, they haven't even given us a moon lovers sequel yet. At least the show ended on a good note. If only we knew who the writer was...
