You don't easily find characters as well-written as what this drama offers
JTBC did it again. When the Weather Is Fine is one of those dramas that doesn't get to be appreciated as much as they should be. Some viewers may find it a little too slow-paced, but that shouldn't be a problem. I cannot really say that this is the best drama out there, but I can confidently say you'll never find main lead characters (and even all the support roles) as wonderfully crafted as Mok Hae Won and Lim Eun Seop. It also includes personalities of all age groups, all being given just the right amount of attention they deserve. This, I really have to applaud. Characters are painfully honest, not exactly to each other as most of the plot's problem's are centered in keeping pain to themselves, but they have a strong sense of who they are. This also doesn't necessarily mean they don't allow space for growth, in fact, it's the opposite. The creators of this drama really went out there and decided to focus mostly on character growth without even trying to make them likable. That alone is honestly enough for me. A drama that respects its characters is a good drama. What makes When the Weather Is Fine special to me is that it steers off from the usual tropes general k-dramas like to explore. Mok Hae Won, as a main lead, does not fall victim to the typical constraint of how mains should be kind and forgiving, or that the entire story revolves around them, or how their actions greatly affect the course of a story. In fact, Mok Hae Won is more often treated like a support, constantly being the last to discover painful truths whilst being self-centered in her own way. Lim Eun Seop is characterized, as a student, that isn't generally good at talking with people, finding more comfort in books instead of participating in mundane conversations. He was given the "loner" stereotype, but as an adult, he becomes an organizer of a book club and is always present at high school mini-reunions. What's even more amazing is that they didn't change the shy-type personality of Eun Seop at all, showing neglect to the more known and exploited negative effects of the stereotype. The drama doesn't get uncomfortably cheesy but it doesn't overlook romance either. It's not even restricted to the leads, either. About three or four love lines are splashed here and there, all of which are generally enjoyable in their own way.
On the darker side of the spectrum, this drama deals with domestic abuse, loss, isolation, suicide attempts, and crime. These topics are thrown into the bag without warning and is left there to unfold in its own way. The ambiance the drama generally sets is cold but is open to any warmth that might come in, just as how winter welcomes the arrival of spring. It is remarkable how the change in seasons is told in parallel to the change and transformation of its characters. Despite dealing with heavy topics, each episode does not fail to incorporate the feeling of lightness, all shown in the simplicity of living away from the busy streets of the city and finding happiness in the simpler things in life. We get to see how getting a little closer to nature brings us a little bit closer to ourselves, away from many distractions but allowing us more opportunities to deal with our inner turmoils.
When the Weather Is Fine is a wonderful story that deals with how one plucks up the courage to open up the things that have always been closed. Staying true to the unpredictability of life, it depicts the past as something you can't run away from, but something you can definitely overcome. It shows the murkiness of honesty and family, may they be blood-related or not. Overall, it's a vibrant presentation of healing, of how we, as humans, can only find the strength to move forward in our own pace, and always more so when the weather is fine.

Such a lovely and slow-paced drama , I loved the acting of both main leaders , the soundtrack was so calm and relaxing . The love he had for her was so pure and innocent. The story was excellent , it really makes you to feel like "then what will happen..."
It brought up so many topics like why good things doesn't last forever and how to deal with these kind of things that we will get through in our lives . It was really heart-warming .
The acting of the support cast was awesome , they really give that friendly , natural and energetic vibe . I can't deny that their little stories were really entertaining and lovely.
I love almost every moment of the drama , it got a little slowly in the 3 or 4 episode but then it begin to flow , things came out to know .
The ending was ok I didn't feel like there was something missing , although I can't hide that I would like a second season

The story line is interesting, the cast and acting of the characters are good too. Although I was not very much caught into the music in this drama the music is also good. You can enjoy the village side melo-love story through this drama. It's warm and refreshing. Those who want to get a little taste of village side calm, pure and warm story, this drama will do.
I personally like Moon Jung Hee (as Shim Myung Yeo) character alot. I liked every scene she is in. This is my first time watching Moon Jung Hee's drama and i loved her character and acting in this drama. All the main leads got good amount of scenes and time slots in the drams except for Im Se Mi. If you are watching the drama because of Im Se Mi, please don't get disappointed, as she did not get to act in many scenes.
I don't know if my review is useful or helpful or at-least reasonable. But if you are able to decide whether to watch the drama or not, based on reading my review, i am glad that it helped you to decide.
Thank you for sparing your time to go through my review.... :)

A Well Paced Romance Drama With Solid Acting And A True Soul
I don't watch many full on romance dramas let alone finish all the 16 episodes, but When The Weather Is Fine managed to keep me invested in it's story line and characters from start to finish. The pacing of the love story felt very natural, never making me feel annoyed like many others do. The main story line often surprised me with its turns and never giving away too much about which direction its going. But I would argue that half of the power of this drama actually lies in the side characters and their relationship with each other and the main characters. Instead of being there just for for comic relief or to create a love triangle, they felt real and important. Many of them having their own story and character arc. Their opinions, secrets and actions having serious influence on the lives of the main characters and the main story line.
I partially started this drama because I was curious to see how Seo Kang Joon would deliver in a more serious drama and I was not left disappointed. He manages to take his character, who on the outside seems like a happy perfect son, and hints at us through his subtle acting that there is much more to him. He creates little cracks in this carefully crafted mask and shows us the loneliness and trauma that hides beneath. In many ways Seo Kang Joon's character reminded me of Kim Soo Hyun's character in It's Okay Not To Be Okay. Both hiding away their pain and true self in fear of causing pain to their loved ones. After finishing this drama a few days ago I caught myself thinking about his character from time to time. I feel like he delivered a solid performance leaving me at the end with the feeling that I truly got to know his characters and all his weaknesses.
Its been years since I've seen Park Min Young in a drama and was surprised to realize she was the FL. Similarity to Seo Kang Joon, her character was a bit of a mystery to me in the start, never giving much away about her thoughts or feelings. It's only through the flashbacks to her youth that you start to understand the pain and betrayal she's has endured and that have created this emotionless mask she puts up. It was honestly hearth warming to see both characters shed their past and come back alive the more they developed their relationship. I felt Park Min Young was well cast for this role as she was able to play the emotionally distant version of the character convincingly but without feeling too cold or dead. And as the story progressed she also managed to pull at your heartstrings in the emotional or happy scenes with her convincing acting. The more I watched the more I cared for her and loved her.
In conclusion I found the drama very engaging through its realistic and captivating characters, convincing acting and good pacing. I think this is a perfect drama for people who are interested in slow moving realistic romance dramas that really focus on character development and acting.

Rewatched 4 times..
Watching many dramas this is probably one of few at the very top, although it is a slow melodrama it really pulls you into the story of each character emotionally. It brings you back to life which not many kdramas do, its pure therapy. This drama has a very warm and cozy feeling that goes along with it. I recommend giving it a go, first few episodes are pretty slow but it is sure worth it!!Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

Life isn't Fine it's Stormy & Messy
This series is a perfect example of having multiple diverging storylines & doing them well. Wrapping up each one with a conclusion that the viewer can empathize with & appreciate at the same time. I developed my love for the Actor Seo Kang Joon in this series. He has the most expressive face & his eyes tell all. I re-watched & enjoyed it the 2nd time more than the 1st. Park Min Young played such a beautiful character, she depicted how devastating it is for a friend to betray you especially in school. The story really shows how emotional devastation effects each character. The actors Moon Jung Hee & Kim Bo Young are significant in the movement of the story Fantastic series a must watch But do not expect a fast pace it is a slow pace like the country side it is depictingVond je deze recentie nuttig?
A light hearted drama with a right heart
When The Weather Is Fine didn't received much recognition like other dramas that aired in 2020, as it should have. A slice of life drama with a slow pace that tells us about the way of life through healing, loving and forgiving. The drama contains numerous thematic threads that are poignant and generally strikes a balance between melodrama and comedy. By exploring in great detail the relationships between characters, When the Weather is Fine underscores the small but precious responsibilities that come with love.
The true hero of this drama is its characters as they narrate their stories and show their perspective which feels quite relatable. Won't forget to mention the OST and BGM of the drama, it was one of the best soundtrack that I have heard in K-Drama. It was peaceful, soothing, melodious and at times, emotional as well.
This drama needs more attention and recognition that it received (stating on the basis of Ratings and # of watchers).
My Rating : 8/10

Watching this drama was an experience.
This one's a bit hard to summarize. It definitely qualifies as a slow burner. It's very immersive. Two main stories unfold: the love story, and the hidden family secrets story. Some side stories work; others are annoying. The love story works and the family secrets storyline is absolutely gripping. The acting is superb. Watching the primary cast play off each other was immensely satisfying. And it's all set in this moody, introspective winter environment with an ambient score. There are layers, revelations, poetry and philosophy, all metered out at a satisfying pace. I didn't watch it as much as let it wash over me.

heart feels warm and happy
Cinematography: Brilliant soft focus. Great shots of conversations at the bookclub and also a great capturing of the scenes of rural life. Park Min Young and Seo Kang Joon GLOOOWWWWMusic: I love that the music was more on the instumental side, I will not forget the theme. And also the comedic sound, beautiful.
Characters: I loved the side characters so so much. Each felt like a well embodied character and especially love the little forays into backstory that come from the characters... and the varying relationships within the plot
Plot: Just love love love the way it handles poetry and literary prose into the episode structure. A story within a story moments were my favorite. The love story mattered of course, because it was about two people who have past trauma coming together. Not too overwrought on the melodrama. I love the women centric and especially issues of consent and violence handled. A soft tribute to honest relationships... refreshing nonetheless.
Pace... not for the content overloaded social media scrolling addict. Its about relaxing, experiencing love and giving it time.
overall such a loving and warm drama. loved all the side characters and also the exploration of trauma. without cliche and the plot line felt consistent throughout. Will watch again in the winter time.
