Breath of fresh air
I absolutely love everything about this drama. It feels like I'm going to miss the characters a lot. I'm already experiencing "sepanx" (separation anxiety). At first, I thought the first episode was a bit chaotic, but as the episodes go on, it becomes clear why they took that approach. It was a bold risk, but it paid off. Now, I’m just waiting for the female lead and male lead to start their romance. From the storyline to the characters, the music, the OST, the editing—everything just works perfectly. Plus Kim Sejeong, she's just so perfect.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Great Cast but the story is as mediocre as it could get
I'm not a seasoned review writer and I'm not going to be bashing the characters or Actors. In simple terms this story is trash
I Don't why these actors chose to act in this shitass drama but what can I say, You can watch it if you have nothing else to watch but this definitely doesn't deserve the 8.1 rating, MDL ratings are pretty shit
More importantly, The side characters turn every single Sad scene into a funny, come on bro, let us enjoy various type of Emotions, what's the point of a story to only being funny and the worst part is most of the alleged funny scenes aren't even funny
(I've watched till episode 6)

“Everyone is different, and thats normal”
“I know you're trying, but you are trying too hard. It'll only eat away at you without you even realising it”“Brewing Love” is one of those rom-coms that aren't plot-centric, but rather character focused. Its such a feel good type of show that'll heal your inner child through the main characters' story, atleast it is healing my inner child.
“Brewing Love” has a pretty simple plot. Its nothing too complicated, but it stays consistent with its storytelling. It doesn't stray away from the main plot, which makes it very easy to watch. It doesn't have any annoying side plots either. The main focus is on our main leads, and their healing journey, and the people around them.
A lot of the times dramas like these fail to fully flesh out characters, but Brewing Love totally captures the essence of a character. Even, the side characters don't feel like one dimensional caricatures who are only there to help the main leads.
Every relationship between the characters feel rather heartwarming and wholesome. The villagers were annoying at first, but even they feel endearing after a few episodes.
What I love most about this drama is the main couple. At first, I thought it would be the typical grumpy and sunshine trop(not that I'd hate it). But they ended up being something more than that. The chemistry between the main couple is just so perfect. The way they became vulnerable with eachother in a few episodes never fails to amaze me. Their story really progressed without much misunderstandings. What they have is the definition of a healthy relationship.
Small town romances can get really boring sometimes, but Brewing love is different. It makes me giggle and kick my feet everytime the main couple are on the screen. It has the perfect balance of comedy and seriousness too.
Brewing Love feels rather refreshing to watch at the end of such a chaotic year. It feels comforting in a way. Anyone who loves a good healing romance should watch it.

Predictable story you would still want to watch!
Another story which actually didn't need 12 episodes. Nevertheless its worth the watch!1. Simple story, most of it is predictable but is yet warm to watch.
2. Feel good vibes with no big fights, no love triangles, no parents problems (at least with the main leads).
3. Every misunderstanding is cleared pretty much in the same episode.
4. Good chemistry between the main leads + mature characters around the whole story.
To summarize its a good one time watch drama to warm up your mood.

Ok Chanhwie made me stay
I was looking forward to this drama as I love the main leads, but the first few episodes were so Cliché and the towns people were quite annoying. After the 3rd episode it started getting better Our male lead is so charming that you just don't want to take your eyes off him.
This is the 3rd drama I've seen Baek Sungchul and I liked him fine before but now Chanhwi won my heart I kept watching mostly to see what silly shenanigans he'd be up to. I want to see more of him a main lead maybe, and I know I'm not alone in this.
The last two episodes were quite boring, I skipped most of episode 12. It's an OK drama with some funny scenes, something to watch when you have nothing better to do.

They Tried Too Hard
This drama is, as what Min-Ju kept saying to Yong-Ju, "trying to hard". Calling this drama as a Rom-Com is a bit insult for me. The romance is just mid, if not lacking. This drama mostly tells you about a business story, or maybe a life at work.I must have high patience because I keep watching it up until episode 10. They developed a lot of conflicts during the first half, and still building another more up until episode 10! Now I am a bit hopeless that they can resolve everything in just 2 episodes. They told that each characters have their on struggles in their past, yet nothing has been revealed clearly to see what their back story is. Why did Yong-Ju parents died? Why did Yong-Ju quit from the Special Force? Why did Min-Ju tried to suicide? Why Yong-Ju gave Min-Ju a camera? What ruined Ah-Reum's childhood life so bad? Even if they answer all these in the last 2 episodes, I feel like it may be too late. They should answer it earlier, so they can embrace these memories altogether with the one they love in the later stage.
Even this drama is directed by the sama person who direct Business Proposal, it is definitely incomparable. There romance is just casually added so it will fit with the genre, while the comedy is mostly came from the villagers, thanks to them. As much as I love Se-Jeong, I don't think they cast the FL and SFL correctly. For me, she has a cheerful persona that doesn't suit the character with such struggles as Chae Yong-Ju. Casting Shin Do-Hyun as Bang Ah-Reum is a bit waste, as she didn't even get a proper character build up.
To me, this drama has issue on the idea at the beginning. Rather than focusing on the romance or comedy itself, they developed too much story around the ML and FL (the office, the work, the village).
PS: I'm currently in Episode 10 and I will update this once I finish. If this have a sad ending, I will be more insulted though.

The Perfect Ending we were waiting for
It is the end. Finally, the chapter has come to an end. The journey of a passionate salesperson and a sensitive brewer has reached its happy pinnacles after going through tumultuous ups and downs. As Ms. Chae learned to accept the feelings she has always kept within her, Brewmaster learned to accept his true self. Masculinity is not about being hard and tough. Expressing emotions and crying their heart out is also part of being a man. They also successfully brought out the best of themselves in making the best beer.
Park Seon Ho, the man behind the camera also propelled stories like Business Proposal, Wok Of Love, and My Strange Hero is becoming a new master in narrating Cinderella stories. His way of defining love never gets cliche or pathetic. As Min Ju and Yong Ju traverse through their character arc, they also develop their bond in a different light. Love is not about being lovey-dovey but accepting each other through flaws.
Lee Jong Won is doing a critical job after successfully flying his third lead drama this year. In every one of his performances, he successfully stands out. His chemistry with Kim Sejeong is the only factor that often fell apart. We really miss our Business Proposal pair. The chemistry failed to hit the perfect balance. Shin Do Hyun as beautiful Ae Reum is the much-needed balance in making the perfect beer. The supporting cast did a brilliant job of pulling the story. Brewing love is a refreshing romantic comedy that can be loved by all.

It was very challenging to rate and review Brewing Love. The tone and plot of the show varied wildly from one episode to another. There were episodes that I adored and gave five stars and others I could barely finish. What really worked in this drama was the main romance. Min-ju was a dream man. He was so gentle and caring but also very determined and flirtatious once he decided to pursue Yong-ju. He had several lines that made me burst into tears at how beautiful and compassionate they were. The episodes that revolved around the two of them really worked for me. What didn’t work was the majority of the rest of the plot, as well as the pacing. The beer storyline would have been okay if it had been minor but it took up so much time and was not interesting to watch. A lot of the character development and backstory felt like it was missing, even for the leads. Some of the side plots had potential and then felt like they either fell flat or were completely brushed past, like with Min-ju’s traumatic past and mental health, or the relationship with his dad. The second couple started off okay, although it was hard for me to get on board because the actor just looks so young, but their storyline felt very disappointing at the end. The way they addressed his backstory felt very clumsy, and their relationship felt very rushed and inauthentic. I really like Yong-ju’s grandma and wished the show had gone more into their relationship.
Brewing Love was very odd because the first few episodes were incredibly boring but then there were some great episodes in the middle. It felt like the show had maybe had a rough start and then hit its stride, but then I also felt that it got very boring again at the end. The show felt all over the place. It was disappointing because there were some episodes that were fantastic. The male lead was such a green flag and it was interesting how they flipped a lot of gender stereotypes with their relationship. There was a lot to like in the show, it was just very inconsistent.

Queen of (fake) smiles meets King of hearts
I have been low-key following Kim Se-jeong since her Uncanny Counters days and then her breakout role in Business Proposal. She has certainly been kept busy with starring roles ever since. To be honest, a couple of them are cash grabs by production companies while others are earnest attempt to recreate the magic of BP. However, none of them have the recipe for the special sauce. From my perspective, BP works because it gathered all the romance tropes together and hit us with them, hard. We don't care if the A-plot doesn't make sense. Just fill our screen with the CP's. It is chemistry overload!
This one started promisingly. KSJ was given a strong role and she literally came out fighting (hwaiting!). Our OTP ticked all the boxes but it is a weird chemistry. It is like watching a commercial for Chinese herbal medicine. You know the one where they have the voice-over to tell you that this concoction will reduce your inner heat? Well, the ML is that personified. It is very nice to have a boyfriend that truly gets you but it is something else if all you do is cry together or meditate to gain inner peace. What about unbridled lust?! OBTW, there is a bit of skinship but other than a couple of nice kisses, it is all rated PG.
The 2CP is cute and they try to shoulder some of the workload. They do occasionally steal the scene but they need more spice as well. There are glimmers of hope but in the end, they are just mirages.
Once you put that in perspective, the rest of the show is just your typical backstabbing business shenanigans and standard village mischief. Bumbling village head meets loud and nosy ajummas. All done with workman like efficiency but nothing too angsty to disturb your karma.
The ending is sugar overload. Oprah Winfrey would be proud. My teeth are aching just thinking about it!
I did enjoy the show but I probably won't remember it in weeks to come. That is a shame as the cast did their best and the plot is decent. Good enough to be above average but that's a mighty crowded drama space.

The Brewing Process of Life and love Journey
Even though I don't drink alcohol, the metaphor of brewing is quite captivating as it underscores the messages conveyed in the stories. The drama’s introduction beautifully illustrates this brewing process.1. Malting & Mashing. The malting phase parallels our early years, which lay the groundwork for who we become. Our environment nurtures, educates, and shapes us. The mashing stage represents our formative years, a time filled with a mix of sweet and bitter experiences.
Chae Yong Ju comes from a humble background; she’s been trained to be both physically tough and mentally resilient to survive, yet she often overlooks her own emotions. Yun Min Ju, on the other hand, is a neurodivergent individual sensitive to physical, emotional, and social cues. He is empathetic and creative but struggles to gain his father’s acceptance. Bang A Reum grew up surrounded by material wealth but lacked emotional support. O Chan Hwi enjoys a loving family, but the burden of his duty as a soldier has exposed him to life's darker sides, particularly the harsh realities that come with taking innocent lives.
2. The boiling stage can be likened to the trials we encounter in life. We face these challenges and, ultimately, emerge stronger. Each main character gains strength by acknowledging their past and embracing their true selves. This is where transformation happens—akin to fermentation—where we evolve, change, and mature, much like yeast converting wort into beer.
Chae Yong Ju realizes the importance of accepting and embracing her personal needs and emotions, a lesson she learns from Yun Min Ju, who is attuned to feelings. In turn, Yun Min Ju discovers that he can be accepted, loved, and cherished by others, particularly through his connections with his staff at the brewery. When he falls for Yong Ju, he learns the value of opening up and sharing his feelings with those he loves. Similarly, Bang A Reum also learns to be open with her parents and reveals her true self to O Chan Hwi. In response, O Chan Hwi dares to be genuine in front of Bang A Reum and eventually confronts his family, though this resolution isn’t explicitly shown in the drama.
3. Conditioning Process. Like a finely aged beer, we refine our character and hone our unique qualities over time.
As for the genre, the drama can be compared to a beer with taste notes that blend fruity, malty, earthy, and hoppy flavors. This combination reflects the relationships between the characters, encompassing thoughtfulness, sweetness, happiness, and contentment. The emotional journey is engaging, evoking both laughter and tears, while also providing a sense of comfort and serenity.
Overall, the story balances creativity with some typical romantic cliches, yet these elements do not detract from its value or impact.
Music: Oh the music makes me feel the love in the air. That's all I can say about the OST hehe oh but finally, we've got to hear Kim Sejong again. :-)
Rewatch Value: Yes.

Refreshing
At first the plot didn’t reel me in that well just from reading it, however the more I watch the drama the more I found myself enjoying it a lot.The repressed girlboss x emotionally sensitive man pairing theyre doing with this drama makes an amazing combination.
The side characters being more than just comedic relief is also refreshing to see as their story gets shone throughout while also not stealing from the main couple’s storyline.
A fun mixture of romance, sentimental and comedy so far
Side note, Kim Sejeong is such a phenomenal actress and the way they paired her emotional scenes with her solo ost is so good 😭
