i love love love JCW's glistening eyes. gosh i hope he never changes. i love his character here, so respectful towards other people (elders) who pointed out his incompetence and actually smacked his head but he doesn't take it personally and remained humble and positive. what a great character! he's also a really loving oppa towards his bratty dongsaeng, LOL.
Sometimes complete strangers can become your family too...
An unfinished trial. The writer probably didn't conclude this case because technically the law on familial inheritance is complex but the point was to highlight than sometimes strangers can become family, and family can become strangers. So heartbreaking.I kinda feel sad that Ba Reun overheard Oh Reum saying in front of her aunts that he's not her type. Gosh that was so mean. I had an inkling he heard it although he was drunk and he truly did. Sighh~
"I.....you know when you see suffering just wherever....whether it be on the streets or on your screen through documentries or even dramas....there is something in all of us, that just makes us connect with each and every character we see whether real or not....this drama even though has all these slight comedic scenes that makes me giggle, it just flips so quick and shows me that each of the very characters that make me laugh have something painful they went through or are going through....and so the people we see today (or in the drama) are the one sculpted from all the pain and suffering to who they are now....it just makes me really aware of the individuals around me, my parents, my brother, my grandparents....people i will meet and the people i have met...this drama is the perfect depiction of everything that's wrong and beautiful in our world...and i truly hope it gets acknowledged for its plot, its storyline, its actors and just in general for the amazing atmosphere created by the writers because its not just a korean thing, its a worldwide thing....and every single issue they raise is just so realistic and in depth, it gives me a new perspective in life...i thank the writers for being absolute angels for being able to potray such scenes in various details and aspects....i am just mindblown".//Really another beautiful episode, damn. In fact i keep saying that one episode after the other. The failed attempted suicide case that resulted in permanent paralysis of the adult son (someone who's suffering quietly by himself). Also the second case where divorced parents fought for the custody of their daughters, and after weighing several factors, Judge Han decided that the custody should be maintained with the children's mom who cheated on her husband. Gosh, so heartbreaking because they gave us a glimpse of Judge Han's life himself as a father when his daughters were still small. The judgement delivered saying "i am sorry i cannot give the kids to you, but i hope time will provide a better remedy than the law can ever will".So damn heartbreaking and hits you right in the feels :(
The most healing episode of this drama yet, probably one of the most healing episodes i have seen yet in a kdramaland. This episode progresses through like a breeze, so healing but at the same time quite painful. We opened with the trial of a congressman who seeks 'the right to be forgotten' or a picture of his past to be deleted from the internet. Then the episode breezes through the inner feelings of Ba Reun even more, where we could see that he's becoming even more smitten by her. One of it is witnessing her courage and gutso to face challenges head on, and being unafraid of power dynamics as repeatedly evidenced LOL. A wildly different persona to who she was in high school, a timid music major whom he was also enchanted by.Out of the blue, he confessed to her about wanting to know her past stories because he's liked her since a long time ago, and still does. Surprised by that sudden confession, she told him she's always grateful to him but never enough to develop a feeling, and she also told him that she went through so much hardship because of her family troubles. And the thought of dating a co-worker is also very troubling. With that, she rejected him.His defeated look really broke me :(But we could also see that Ba Reun has familial issues to deal with. He's mainly individualistic because his father has been unreliable all his life, so he suffered growing up too.The way the writer is laying out the individual problems of the lead characters is honestly making me nervous because i was really rooting for their romance but it seems like the way it's heading, it may not happen or at least in the running duration of this show.I ship them so much, please help to heal each other jebal :(Kinda heartbreaking too that the reason the congressman wants his old photo off the Internet is because his first love was in it, and it makes his dying wife really sad. Goshh. So heartbreaking.
A small progress is a good progress, and trying to change a system literally takes generations
Really loved the ending speech that Oh Reum gave at the general meeting in front of all the attending judges. She liked her presiding judge, Han so she hoped that the committee will take action to make the workplace more favourable to the young people. Unfortunate that they lacked 20 people to start casting the votes.Actually i wasn't sure if the motion brought up would be Judge Song's dismissal, or something else that Ba Reun insisted on instead. That is to discuss improvement on human rights at the workplace, that is no overworking to the point of being causing detriment to one's health which is a different point than to see revenge to the presiding judge who treated his subordinate like sh*t.Really pity Judge Hong who had a miscarriage. Seems like she's also developing depression or anxiety out of the fear of having to re-adjust to the prying eyes and gossiping mouths when she returns to work. I hope her character won't disappear and we could see real improvement between her and her boss, sighh.I really liked how level-headed Ba Reun is. He reminded Oh Reum not to start group petition to seek personal revenge on the injustice faced by their colleague, rather focus on improving the broken workplace culture. He likes her a lot so she's slowly changing him but I think we could also see he's influencing her in a good way too.I also loved the scene when Judge Han scolded Oh Reum for only listening to one side of the story and never going up to Judge Song to hear his situation. He's right on that. Also when Oh Reum and Ba Reun tried to convince the other associate judges, one of them hesitated because the female workers took up maternity leaves so he had to cover up for them, and he has a small daughter too at home whom he's not been tending. That's when Oh Reum and Ba Reun realizes that human rights issue at the workplace is a universal issue that crosses gender rather than being gender centric. This show has been absolutely outstanding at making the viewers think about real life's dilemmas. I truly applaud the impeccable writing! ^^
A great episode, one after the other.Oh Reum is literally unafraid of anything, she's so gutso. Even when her boss told her not to carry the petition form around asking for Judge Song's dismissal for indirectly causing his associate judge to have a miscarriage from overworking, she walked away from him and proceeded with it LOL.At the ending we could see Ba Reun stopping her and telling her that he's finally on her side now, and rather than using the petition forms, they'll use the channel of calling for a formal meeting as allowed in the Supreme Court Act/Protocol.I really wanna see how far Oh Reum and Ba Reun can fight against this system. It's so interesting!!!
Sexual harassment case, nice ending but the juxtaposition at the ending scene, sighh
This drama makes me so happy watching it because of the quality of its writing. The sexual harassment case/trial was really good, indeed power imbalance when refusing sexual advances from a superior is a real dilemma facing many women. Glad the victim won the case. Also karma when the perpetrator's wife admitted that she too was assaulted by the representative lawyer in the condition that he represents her husband. Sick bastards.I also agree with the above review saying that the ending scene is so smart at depicting the struggles that women face regularly to protect themselves from predators. Really scary world we live in.//Ahh we get more blooming romance scenes!! When Ba Reun ran to accompany Oh Reum to get home safely because she was leaving the office at midnight, also the ending when they went to the market and wore traditional dresses to attract tourists to the place and help businesses. The way Oh Reum is slowly changing him to become more sociable is really cute. ❤❤❤
wow, the way this episode made me cry. that was so touching, when the mother of mentally challenged kid finally opened up during the hearing about her son's condition, and then we could see that the waitress and the restaurant owner was also under stress, so they all reacted negatively in a situation that should not have required a lawsuit.i mean, it was so nice that Oh Reum was the one who cancelled the mediating agreement and rescheduled a retrial so they found out the truth about persons behind the lawsuit, and finally plaintiff cancelled the lawsuit completely because she was properly heard and received the apology she wanted.Oh Reum's character is quite naive and rash in a sense, and although she may not be able to change the system, i think she'd be able to change the judges to become better listeners and a lot more compassionate in their ruling.honestly i can relate to Oh Reum breaking into tears whenever she had to deal with cases of injustice. i'm like that too, such a crybaby and i can't help it LOL. i even kinda hate myself for it. it's like you wear your emotions on a sleeve and it can easily be seen as a weakness.//there are many cute scenes in this episode:1. when Ba Reun was protecting Oh Reum from getting hit with the tennis ball, LOL.2. when Ba Reun came to foot volleyball friendly match and Oh Reum took his hands and linked them to their colleague's son so his mother can join the game. too cute!3. when Ba Reun was staring at Oh Reum for being so expressive when reading case materials, and then when she was smiling really big, he couldn't figure it out so he came to check and saw that she was smiling at the picture of a cheesecake.4. when Ba Reun gave Oh Reum a cheesecake during the volleyball match.5. when Oh Reum kept pulling all-nighters all week and then she had a bloody nose, so Ba Reun got angry at her and told her that she should leave early. and then when she was still there, he offered to solve a mathematical calculation for her, which he lied to and said it can be solved with a computer program in 30 minutes but he had to stay up all night to finish it.6. when we saw a glimpse that Oh Reum was actually smiling big not because she was looking at cheesecake picture, but the video clip of Ba Reun who blocked the tennis ball with his face, LOL.my ship is sailing~ ^^p/s KIM MYUNG SOO'S DIMPLES!!! I REPEAT, HIS GORGEOUS DIMPLES. SH*T, I CAN'T CONCENTRATE ON ANYTHING, LOL. HE'S SO DISTRACTING.
gahh this drama is charming as hell.i already love Go Ah Ra's character, she's so sassy and unbothered LOL but we can actually see later that she's emotional and soft-hearted. as a contrast we get Kim Myung Soo's character who is level-headed, realistic and generally dislike people (someone who's really smart and good/suitable for the nature of his job but also because of it, has a kinda sad life).i'm interested in where the story will take me. i find Kim Myung Soo's acting to be very good in this, it's natural and crisp. also love her in that burqa, HAHAHAHA! her eyes really are so big and pretty. i also loved that he already has a crush on her in high school and he remembers exactly for how long they have been apart LOL, so cute! so i want to see romance developing between them. what's gonna happen that will make him loosen up more with her? ahh can't wait to see more! ^^
wow, this episode was really about half terrible. reminds me why i didn't like almost the entirety of The Fiery Priest first half, bucket loads of antics and slapstick comedy that didn't really work, and are mostly boring fillers. the only half good thing was the court room scene where he was taken in as a witness, and the other scenes when Cha Young was jailed and he came up with a deal with Choi Myung Hee to take her out. i find that scene strangely remarkable because they both know he's the one who sent her the death threats before (and he know she was the one who ordered to kill lawyer Han ahjussi), but he was still able to approach her first and propose the deal, LMAO. i ALSO thought the ending was spectacular, the resemblance of their fighting chaos with the woman/goddess of freedom expressed in the painting LOL. i cracked up, that part was good!
Okay immediately after JCW oppa appeared at the end of the episode, my interest is sealed LOL.I would've had problems watching this if not because i have already finished Warrior Baek Dong Soo and this interested me being the project he did before Five Fingers and Empress Ki.The drama has a nice ambience i think, other than the toxicity of that ahjumma character, the ML is an earnest hardworking guy. So charming in a relatable way where is the opposite to cool/rich guy characters who I'm like many others are usually attracted to, LOL. Came to my surprise that Lee Se Young is here as JCW's bratty dongsaeng, yeahh it's gonna be good.I think this would be quite the healing drama for me. Ouh ouh ouh. It's a real life story too! Gahh i can't wait to see where the story will take me. ❤❤❤
really nice episode. reminds me of the second last episode of The Crowned Clowned in terms of overarching arc.honestly Dong Soo had so many one-man show fighting scenes in this drama, especially in the ending of this episode where he had to fight off 100 military soldiers who are off to try and kill Crown Prince Heir, Yi San. he had to fend them off by themselves while Yeo Un was watching in the corner before finally deciding to jump in and help out. he was probably worried that his friend was gonna get killed once he got tired and injured, after all he already pretended to enter into the Crown Prince chamber to kill the Prince but actually didn't.i can't get over how badass Yeo Un looked everytime he uses a combination of a sword and knife on both hands to fight off others. honestly, that's really unfair but everyone else probably does not do it because they are not ambidextrous. finally we can see in this episode Dong Soo also uses two swords on both hands to fight off the others. that scene was cool AF. can't imagine how tiring it was to film a drama like this where a lot of choreographed practice and training had to be done before shooting/filming. i really have 'newfound' respect for all the lead actors playing the characters of Baek Dong Soo, Yeo Un, Sword Saint and Sky Lord Cheon. even the characters of Hwang Jin Gi, Sa Mo and Jin Joo. mad respect!!!especially Sword Saint, goshh ahjussi got sleek moves! i am so happy with the castings for this drama, they choose very well and everyone did their characters a whole fckin justice.
daebak!"After the previous Human Lord did many horrible things, and survived getting his thumb and arm cut off, being burned and beaten, once he finally turned to the good side and actually died, I cried along with the young boy at his death. Why? Because the writing is just that good. Also I'm hoping that Cho Rip will really be fine and Yo Un didn't kill him."//the fact that the writers kept the evil Dae Ung (ex Human Lord) alive, whose life even surpassed that of Sword Saint and Sky Lord Cheon after multiple survivals is honestly very mindblowing to me. they really had a great plan for his character, i couldn't have imagined it.i feel so touched when at his last moments, Dong Soo found him, and he said to Dong Soo, "you are a hundred, thousand times stronger than Sword Saint (his master). you truly embody the meaning of hwanglingeom (the wielding of sword to save lives rather than take lives).the hwalingeom reference here is important because that was also Sword Saint unfulfilled wish, because when he was dying, he said to Dong Soo that he still doesn't think he has achieved hwanglingeom.imagine such an evil person messing with your closest people over and over, yet you didn't go ahead with killing him when you had all the chances to do it. finally that asshole died committing one good deed, saving villagers from being killed by corrupt military officials.Baek Dong Soo, you terrific character!!! i admire you so much.
Joseon's best swordsman, Baek Dong Soo comin' through!!! ❤❤❤
Daebak! I think one of the best episodes to date.Loved that Dong Soo and Master are now training in the mountains. The master, Sword Saint tells Dong Soo to practice really hard so he can surpass him. He obliged. The tests include:1. Throwing silver coins to cut into pumpkin skin.2. Sword fighting.3. Use spears to slice into half a small black bean on the wood.4. Slicing falling pine leaves.5. Blindfolded sword fighting.6. Cutting into a huge wooden tree with using a sword.Fast forward 3 years and Dong Soo finally passed all tests!!!! The biggest smile on Master's face especially when he directed sword on the Master's neck while being blindfolded. Wow i can never get over that!!!I cried a bit watching that scene. I feel so proud of Dong Soo too, all his efforts finally paid off.Ji Seon is really smart, gahh. She recruited Jin Joo to help her find fur caps to start trading. Later on she started a ginseng trading that's a three way business with Qing and Japan, therefore improving their economy and lifting Jin Joo's men from thieves to merchants. Also Sky Lord Cheon who now came over to fight off Hwang Jin Gi (Jin Joo's adopted father). But at the same time Dae Ung ex Haeksa Chorong Human Lord is looking for Cheon's head because there's a new Sky Lord appointed by Qing.So now Hwang Jin Gi's (government fugitive) about to be killed at the same time they wanna kill Cheon. The shocking thing is when the Earth Lord ahjumma finally admitted that Jin Joo is Cheon's daughter LOL. No wonder she gave away the baby.P/s Yeo Un received the order from that villain minister to take down the merchant group that Ji Seon established i think. He's so despondent about it. Thankfully now Dong Soo has completed his training so he can protect Ji Seon with all his might. Dong Soo-yaaa, fighting!!! ❤❤❤❤❤p/ss also, Yang Cho Rip left to take the civil service examination and he passed!!! He works at the palace's library of treasured books and then when Yi San crown prince heir asked for a forbidden book, he actually know to glue off/seal the specific pages that are controversial. So when the King asked for the books to inspect them, he saw the controversial sections were sealed. Now Cho Rip won favour with the Crown Prince Heir and he became his trusted person, wohooo! P/sss also, JI CHANG WOOK'S EXPOSED FOREHEAD!!!! FINALLY. DAMN. THIS IS TOO MUCH HOTNESS THAN I CAN EVER HANDLE IN ONE DRAMA GDAMNIT. >.>I'm enjoying this drama way too much LOL, so freaking good! ^^
i find this drama very engaging though.it's not difficult to follow at all so far, except this was set in Goguryeo which i just found out dated much back before Goryeo in the Three Kingdom Period, alongside Silla and Baekje.and good words of mouth are spreading all over about the commitments of their staffs and actors to minimize damage to the drama.Kim So Hyun plays a warrior princess extremely well, she's so talented! definitely someone who will receive multiple awards for playing this role.definitely a drama worthy of praises and love. let's support them :)
